Mark,
I saw a small bear at 7 pm tonight. It was the first bear that hit my bait all day. It rained most of the day today around Cumberland. Hope tomorrow will have different results.
Had 2 boars come in tonight. Both about 180-200 lbs. one had a brown face and the other black gray. I decided on the one with the brown face, placed the round well and just got back from the processor. 170 lbs dressed with a real nice coat of hair. Pick up the hide on Friday to drop it off at the taxidermist for a rug.
A friend hunting an adjacent bait site stopped by to help get my bear out. He showed me pics of the 11 bears he had in on his bait. All in all a good night around the Nebagamon area.
Unfortunately no pics, was raining cats and dogs when I pulled the trigger and did not let up until late….so no, I will have to wait until I get the rug back to appreciate / share the bear.
A friend who guides zone C had a client tag out last night on a #527 bruizer. He was on the hit list the last 2 years but disappeared once season started. Another friends wife tagged out last night too. Biggest bear I have ever personally seen. It weighted 657. When I get permission, I will post pictures.
Lots of big bears this year…
I was finally able to pull the trigger tonight too. I was getting frustrated because they really weren’t hitting my bait anymore. I was afraid they winded me sometime during the first 2 days. At about 6:45 tonight I could tell it was one of the nice ones coming in to the bait. Once it was about 50 yds I shot. He fell right away then got up and ran towards the corn field. I shot 1 more shot and he disappeared. He made it about 30 yds and died on the edge of the corn field. It ended up being the big one I had pictures of. Luckily I could get the 4 wheeler right to him. We had 4 guys and could not slide him into the trailer. We had to use a come along. I just got back from the taxidermist. He didn’t have a scale but said he just skinned a 400 lb bear and thought mine was pushing 500. My buddy Todd took a bunch of pictures. I hope to get them tomorrow. It is my first bear and I can’t believe how freaking heavy they are. Man am I thirsty now.
Congrats bzz!!! That is fantastic!!! Talked to the our local guides last night, they are 5 of 6 already and following our big storms Thursday night, four of them hit the dirt. Nothing big at all really, mostly average bears…
I have a fellow teacher who is starting to run a couple of plotts and the dog guys start next Wed. over south of Ashland. Actually surprised we haven’t seen our own bearplotts show up in any of these early threads. And I have a long time family friend who is lives up here that I haven’t had a chance to talk with yet this late summer… Good stuff!!!
Come on glenn57!!! And Jon Stevens, those are surely a couple of whoppers!!!

Here are a couple pictures I got so far. Won’t be able to get the others until I get home tomorrow. Went to bed at 1:30 this morning and couldn’t sleep. Wish I could have got it weighed but didn’t have a scale available that late at night and wanted to get the hide off and meat cooled down.
Congrats bzzsaw! That is a dandy! Hope to have more pictures shortly. Had another friend who is hunting just text me to see if I was busy and if I had a sled he could borrow.
Or maybe he is just getting prepared…
Nice size bear! 3 of 3 of my friends tagged out. All smaller size of average. 2 over bait and 1 with the dogs
no bear for me yet. had one station hit last week. waiting for the last weekend.
