Plumber cut 30”x 21” hole in garage floor to rough in for toilet. Floor is 6”. Plan to mix concrete in wheelbarrow tomorrow and patch cutout. Looks pretty straight forward but haven’t done before. Any tips appreciated.

Pin the edges, it will shrink as it dries, clean the edges of the existing slab good. Finished product or getting a finished floor over it?

I have had good luck painting the existing with concrete bonding adhesive. And make sure the existing is plenty wet before you start. I have done a lot of patching in my old house.

Ive had to patch a lot of floors over the years. Can never get them to look decent. Good choice not having the plumber do the patch. We suck at cement work.

You can put a few 3/8 pins in the sides if you have the tools. Otherwise it should be fine especially if the sides are rough. Be sure to over fill slightly. Then take a 2×4 thats about a foot longer than the hole width and work it back and forth down the patch to even it out. Don’t over work it. Let it set up until firm, then take a finishing trowel to feather out the edges and smooth everything out.

The toilet is supported by the base plate and not the concrete so it isn’t super critical. Depending on what you are putting down for a floor covering, a thin coat of grout can go down before the finish floor.

Thanks guys. Got it done this morning. It will be great to have the toilet in the garage. Should have done it years ago. With 42” flat screen, Full size fridge with ice maker and tall counter top with big stainless sink and garbage disposal can hide out there indefinitely.

You’d better post some pics of this mancave when complete
