My fish/depth finder finally went Kapuut, humminbird and now I’m going to be looking for another small unit. Finding fish I’m not concerned about because I mostly river fish. What I want one for is to find the depth and that’s why I’m pretty sure I can get one for around the $100 mark. What do you guys that are up on the newer ones suggest, I just want to know the water depth with maybe a depth alarm so I can try to stay off of sand and gravel bars. Any suggestions? Thanks,,,

Check online sales. ebay, Craigslist, for a good used on. You might get more for your money that way. my2cents

Do you have a flasher that you might use for ice fishing?

No I don’t Francisco because I don’t ice fish, I know I know, maybe someday I’ll try it, its better then sitting on the couch and watching the boobtube all the time. Thanks for the Idea though.

Similar in asking what a good $20 fishing rod costs, at that price point they will all be pretty much the same, basic. Go in store and find one that you like, cant imagine there are too many options.

The $100 finders today are probably equivalent to the $300 ones 10 years ago. Should all do what you want them to.

I just bought a Lowrance 3x (I think) for the bow of my boat just so the guy in front can know depth. It’s compact and color screen.

Thats what I would do. I would go for the color one. And those even pick up fish if you set it up right.

I had the low-end Lowrance for years and it did everything I needed it to do. It was the old version of the 3X. Had a nice option for a big display of the depth reading, and honestly as far as showing structure, I never found it wanting. What was on the screen, was on the bottom.

As a bonus, it seemed to work at much higher speeds than the Bottom Line unit that it replaced. No complaints for $99.
