Looking into another TUCR to serve as a dual purpose if possible. I’m in between a Precision, PP or commander for a mixture of walleye and rather large channel cats and pike I catch frequently in the same spots. Only problem is the cats and pike are obviously larger than most of the eyes that I’d catch. Fishing typical walleye baits I’d like to have the necessary sensitivity, but mainly using cut bait for cats and pike kind of negates the need for that sensitivity. Am I better off just buying two rods? Or could I manage with one of them that would work well overall? Thanks guys.

I would say commander would cover you, all depends on how small of jigs you want to use.

The Commander sounds just about perfect for you. Of all the rods TUCR makes the Commander is my favorite walleye rod. It handles 1/8 oz spoons like is was built for that presentation and the Commander has plenty of extra “ooompf” when it comes time to tangle with a larger pike, etc.
September 6, 2016 at 9:14 am #1637820Thanks for input James. How does the Commander compare to the PP other than the obvious stiffer backbone? Tip sensitivity/taper much different? I like the longer rod choices of the Commander also.
September 6, 2016 at 9:28 am #1637824Commander and the Power precision are pretty close as far as the tip goes. The commander is more of a fast action rod with a very stout backbone and the Power is extra fast and works better for smaller jigging raps because it is so fast. Commander is more versatile in the larger fish category.
The Power shines on smaller ripping raps and jigging raps and wanting to fish them very aggressively. I also use it when we go bodies of water like LOW in hard houses.
September 6, 2016 at 10:57 am #1637856Thanks for the info John. I’m almost thinking of just picking up both. I will be fishing the Winnebago system more this year predominantly using jig raps, the PP would be nice for that. I will shoot you an email to discuss further. Thanks.

The Commander is a phenomenal jigging rap rod unless you’re looking to fish the smaller panfish sized raps. As far as the Commander is concerned, it does handle the 5, 7 and 9 beautifully. The Commander has a rare blend of fine, sensitive tip section and a very nice transition between the tip section and backbone of the blank.
September 6, 2016 at 12:02 pm #1637880Yes I should have said the panfish sized ones.
Commander is kinda of rod you never can leave home without. It does everything.
September 6, 2016 at 12:36 pm #1637885I’m thinking it will fit my needs for larger fish set ups. Now I can’t wait to use one, and it’s 80 some degrees outside lol. Would the PP be better for smaller rippin/jigging raps and around 1/8 spoons? Few spots I fish the fish (eyes) can be picky and prefer smaller presentations most of the time.
September 6, 2016 at 12:46 pm #1637886For smaller stuff, probably go to the precision, not pp. Just my opinion.
September 6, 2016 at 12:46 pm #1637887I personally like using a Precision for 1/8oz spoons. That is my go to rod for that type of lures. I like a softer tip for working the spoon.
September 6, 2016 at 2:39 pm #1637917I think a Precision and Commander would be the best choice. Thanks guys, shooting you an email John.
