Another skid house question

    Greetings all,
I have been planning out a skid house for Mille Lacs next season.

Is it worth considering one of the aluminum skid houses? I would want an 8×16 and it would be kept at a resort.

Are the aluminum houses not build for the tough conditions ML dishes out compared to a stick frame house?

Are the Aluminum houses too light for the high winds and more theft prone?

    Any advice would great.

    Thank you

If banked in well shouldn’t go anywhere.
Run a cable through tow hooks and using a tie plate bolt to ice.

If leaving it at a resort, why so small? Just curious. If you plan on them moving it and storing it, I’d definitely go with a 12×16 or 10×20 IMHO.
I’m not sure of your plans but 8×16 gets small after a weekend.

The banking and un-banking will be hard on .040 aluminum. It is soft and will damage easily. Spray foaming will make it stronger. I have a new Triton hybrid snowmobile trailer. You just touch the aluminum siding and it dents.
I just built a custom stick fish house with steel siding to studs and had it spray foamed. Still the bottom 24″ is done with 3/4 plywood for durability. I also put tar paper behind the plywood so the spray foam wouldn’t stick to it. The plan was for me to be able to replace a lower panel if damaged. Not if but when.

I’ve never seen a commerically made house that doesn’t have diamind plate on the bottom section for this reason.

    Thank you all the replies.

Originally I was considering an 8×16 so it would be easier for me to move. After talking with a few resorts on ML some won’t let you move your house. The resort needs to move it. Because of this I am now looking at a 10×16.

I am also looking at shell wheelhouses but they are considerably more expensive. I may look in to buying a 8×16 frame and have someone frame it up for me. Framing is not something I am good at. I can wire and do the interior work.

If anyone has anymore thoughts let me know.
