Got word from my wife who is a hair stylist that this Wednesday The governor is going to announce more restrictions. I’m truly hoping she does not get cut in more hours we are finally getting back on our feet. I can understand it to a point. I really feel for those in the food industries. Wife is already looking for other work but not to much out there.

How many people have been out of work since the beginning?

How many people are not going to work because the schools are closed?

There have to be some? Where I am, everybody is working like nothing is going on outside.

Not saying a lockdown is the answer, but the current strategy is working so well. 🙄

Tomorrow is my last day of work for the month my daughters school is going distance learning, they had been full time in person. Child care is only being provided if both parents are essential as they do not have enough staff to accommodate all. Looks like I will finally get some stuff done around the house.

I heard rumors of this being a possibility a few days ago. Just a rumor as was a rumor covid would go away after the election. neutral

I wouldn’t be surprised though if there was some kind of pullback.

Back when this all began last spring, there were predictions that there’d be a second wave come fall/winter and it does appear to be trending towards that now.

Frankly, I’m surprised as many of the surviving restaurants are still holding out with the limited seating and far fewer dining out. Restaurant margins are so thin to begin with.

Would certainly be sad if the surviving establishments were dealt another blow if there is another SIP directive.

Takeout/curbside is not near enough for most to even stay open.

How long can they keep going?

Lots of smaller owned restaurants in my area are gone already. Covid killed them the first time. Its pretty sad.
Might as well take the rest of them sad

Don’t worry he has a plan.

Hopefully they don’t do a total shutdown like last time.

My understanding is it’s about beauty salons, schools and restaurants. I agree Bearcat89 Biden will lock us down and make us dependant on there “free” help. So much for an economy going.

The loss of jobs with closings will be bad. But worse then that is the loss of tax income for the States and Feds. Guess who will be asked to make up the deficit? wave

I looked at the data for the Isle & Wahkon zip codes. Wahkon now has 6 cases and Isle has 27 new cases THIS WEEK and a total of 44.
Wahkon only has 6 and not enough new cases to register BUT if the gossip is true that will change.
I’ve quit going to the gym & long ago we stopped going out.
If people do not want to follow the professionals guidance, IMHO, then if they get it no ICU or ventilator for you.

Just settle down there buckshot. Penalize people for wanting to live their life?

You WILL get covid. I WILl get covid. Maybe not this year or the next but at some point it’s going to happen.

Lockdowns just kick the cam down the road.

This one? Oh that’s a game breaker 😂

Establish a COVID-19 Racial and Ethnic Disparities Task Force to ensure Americans of all backgrounds get the health care they need. This was proposed by Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.

Like magic! It can’t be, I have been told there will be a vaccine by the end of the year which was countered with we are looking at mid to late 2021. In fact the end of the year timeline was scoffed at.

Yes, that is when this will be over regardless of any vaccine or other measures.

I watched a very good special on the Spanish Flu that PBS reran from over 20 years ago and learned a few things from that old special. First, this is going to be around for a good 2 years. Two, it will be over when it has touched every life on the planet. Third, we need to keep on living just like they did 100 years ago. Bills still need to be paid.

They could not control it then, we cannot control it now. That is the type of virus it is. We are attempting to control something that is spread for the most part by breathing. Non N-95 Masks and even physical distance can only do so much.

    Take care, stay healthy.

Who told you that? I agree with much of what you said but this. This defies logic to me. People say its just a cold or a flu and then I see stuff like this. Do people just get a cold or flu one time in their life and then never again?

Studies are still inconclusive but ive seen studies indicate antibodies may stick around in the human body and help you fight off covid for maybe 6 months at most.

Who’s to say you don’t get a mild case this year and then next year you get a case that puts you on a ventilator or worse?

I’m not suggesting run and hide. I dont think we should have another shutdown. I want to keep businesses open but I fail to find the logic in that one statement. Perhaps you could expand on it to explain to me how this will all end once every person gets it.

Post edit- perhaps you have some knowledge i don’t so asking genuinely to expound on that idea.

They were talking as if this vaccine was more like a measles or polio vaccine, not like yearly flu vaccine. We’ll have to wait and see. First good news on this – so I’ll take it.

KSTP announced this morning that St Paul Schools are expanding their in classroom classes. Seems odd if he’s talking about closing certain businesses down(?)

On the other hand, we’re doing more testing, more cases found, more deaths then this spring, but we (the government) isn’t closing the businesses/schools.

The “next big shutdown” fear mongering is directed by the same people that have their panties in a bunch over Biden winning convincingly. Go home and use up some of your TP reserves from this Spring, or the 10,000 rounds of 9mm you are sitting on at absurd prices thinking it somehow will make you safer than a couple boxes. It will not change your lives one bit who is elected President. No, I don’t think he’s going to be that great. I have gone on the record here saying both he and Trump aren’t great candidates, but I’ve never seen so many people afraid of an over-the-hill white guy and a miniority female VP. The sky isn’t falling. Everyone will survive without their favorite painted Cheetoh in office spewing false information on the daily.

Biden’s Covid strategy is still going to be fairly general and more “feel good”, as it will be up to the states to implement everything. Minnesota is not in the same boat as Alaska, Florida, Maine, Vermont, NY, etc. When talking about Walz, he has really let localities make decisions regarding schools. The real face-to-face service industry like bars, restaurants, nail salons, barber shops, etc are going to be the places that continue to take a hit even if no further restrictions are levied. I do not think the Governor will just blatantly shut everything down like a light switch. Covid is so widespread in the state now that even shutting things down isn’t going to fix much.

But all those so called experts and scientists keep saying stuff people don’t want to hear…

For those who missed it the first time or just didn’t want to hear it. The point of a lockdown is NOT to stop the spread. It is to slow it down so the healthcare system doesn’t become overloaded as it did in China and Europe. That means if it’s your lived one who needs a ventilator to survive, there is a greater chance there will be one available.

Also for all those who just want to do nothing and “live our lives” remember there is no guarantee covid won’t be like the seasonal flu, mutating just enough so you can get it again and again. The more the virus spreads, the more likely this scenario is.

My parameters are to adjust and minimize exposure to at least have the hospitals not be overrun and have to ration care.

I certainly wouldn’t dispute this, in fact more of what I’d expect. In my earlier comment I wondered why there are not more, I should have specified the Mille Lacs area. I cannot think of a single bar/restaurant that has closed due to covid. Or for any other reason for that matter. Surprising…yes, good thing…absolutely. In fact the cafe in Garrison that was for sale for years finally sold to new owners this summer.

Keep in mind too, unlike metro areas with folks always around, times of the year…days like today, there’s nobody around. Which makes it all the more remarkable they’re still holding out.

My parameters are to adjust and minimize exposure to at least have the hospitals not be overrun and have to ration care.

Yes, there is this which is my concern as well. But for more selfish reason I’d rather not be one of those needing a hospital stay.

Whether I ever end up getting it, the longer I can put it off and live another healthy day is plenty good reason for me.

    Happy at home for now.
