Saugeye, I see you have the jesters emoji so I believe you are kidding with your comment but probably a poor choice considering people and families lost loved ones today in Texas.

    X3.

JLD good post. There are innocent people who went to church today and were murdered, and their families have to live with that. Hell, someone here on IDO could be affected by it. We always hope as a society we’re not getting de-sensitized to these tragic events but when jokes like that get made it shows it’s happening.

Does crap like this even surprise anyone? It happens on a weekly basis. You can’t go anywhere these days without looking over your shoulder. Remember to not sit with your back to the door when dining out or anywhere else for that matter.

There has been 370ish mass shootings (4+ victims) in the USA so far this year. Absolutely insane

No, I’m not surprised just saddened. Then think about what can be done to stop this madness. So far, I got nothing.

That’s what really is frustrating. Unfortunately I think it is just a symptom of what our society has become.

It seems to happen about 100x more frequently here than any other country in the world.

Been reading what I can to find out details on his demise. It looks like there is a chance that he was taken down by the neighbor that engaged him in a gun fight at the church. It was not the police that shot him. I hope we can get confirmation on this.

Just heard it’s believed he killed himself.

It’s because guns are everywhere in this country and in our culture. It’s part of our national identity. It’s something we need to accept at this point.

Don’t get me wrong I’m not advocating for harsh gun control or anything. We just need to realize what the cost of that freedom is. This is part of it.

Would you please share a source for this data?

Both of those tables use “per million,” which is statistically more forgiving to countries with larger populations and harsh on small countries who have even a few very isolated incidents.

It’s also misleading because the brevik shooting skews the numbers of Norway considerably.

The topic here is a mass shooting. I agree with most of what you say Black98, but I’m sorry…this is not something I or anyone should accept. This is NOT acceptable. chased

Per million is actually a more reliable stat. To just go by totals without regards to the population is actually more forgiving to smaller countries.

If it’s not acceptable then something should be done about it. Nothing will be done so it’s not really that unacceptable.

At this point all people are willing to do is thoughts and prayers. Thoughts and prayers have done exactly jack and sh¡t and Jack left town.

I dunno maybe that’s all that can be done. This used to be a country that prided itself in solving tough problems. Now we don’t even allow room for intelligent debate.

I’ve had very little tv time and I am making an assumption, that this individual also had some mental illness. Easy to assume because the frequency.

It’s horrible that these events happen, and the loss of life is indescribable.

Somewhere in these tragedies we all must unite to find a solution. A bit premature to preach to the choir, but these jackasses that jump on the soapbox to scream more gun laws is so flipping narrow minded. We, the United States, ranks in the top 3 for serious mental illnesses according the the World Health Org. Though we have some great doctors, we need a much stronger emphasis on finding out WHY and HOW to address it.

I caught a quick blurb on 1 of the crappiest news sources in the air waves. Trump commented on the state of mental health, and the entertainer ( so called journalist) basicly was laughing. What happened to open minded journalism. Just to see these idiots and their blind sheep makes me want to puke

Trump reversed restrictions that made it more difficult for people with mental illnesses to get guns.

The whole guns don’t kill people crowd is equally as narrow minded as the Uber gun control crowd.

You say we must unite to find a solution. The only way that happens is if there are concessions on both sides. Are you willing to give anything up as far as guns go? Are you willing to pay more taxes for more and easier access to mental health treatments?

Randy I don’t disagree with some of the points you make but people on all sides in this country need to stop acting like one side politicizes events but their side doesn’t.

There is almost always immediate call for something to be done about guns, but there’s also plenty of immediate reaction from the pro-gun crowd jumping to preemptively state their case and complain about gun regulation. That’s part of why our country is divided. I wish both sides would realize how they’re both hypocritical yet similar at the same time in their ways. But people always pointing fingers at their opposition and saying how wrong they always are really doesn’t help much.
