ok so I have received my new k-drill with the Milwaukee drill. Put it together and was playing with it. Sweet set up. My question is what’s up with the abrupt stop when un triggering? Its almost a shock, seems really abrupt. I have the drill set on 1 and drill.

Brushless motor… all the new cordless stuff does it.

You could slowly release the trigger, then it’ll abruptly stop at a lower rpm

It does seem like it would be hard on the drill. My brush-less DeWalt does the same thing. It’s a bit better when submerged in water/slush though.

Not so sure it is a brushless characteristic … I have a Craftsman (not brushless) I use for woodworking projects that does the same thing. You can avoid it by easing off the trigger, as mentioned above. Just a matter of technique ….

well I hope it is normal and like Phil said shouldn’t be so bad under a load. Cant wait to use it.

After a little research on drills, I find that sudden clack when stopping is a brake and is normal. To avoid it, ease back on trigger when stopping, as mentioned above.

I have had drill bits loosened up in the chick after a few of those abrupt stops. Hope that never happens with a k drill.

The abrupt stopping is probably a reason for the float that is installed on the kdrill from the factory.

If you don’t mind me asking, if one was to buy the k drill and the drill itself do you have $400 into it

The float is a good idea. I wondered what the coffee can size thing was right under the drill.

If you use the clam drill plate, the auger gets bolted on! Little chance that it will fall loose.

With a set of extra blades, tax, and shipping, ……. About 6 bills is sitting in my garage waiting for ice.

Half of that cost is a heck of a nice cordless drill that can be used year round. Can you do that with your Power auger or Ion? tongue

I have some physical issues with my neck that are a result of an injury from years ago. My arthritic neck coupled with a young son that is getting into the hole hopping mentality makes an 11 lb auger that he can drill his own holes with seem like a good deal at any price. Lugging around a heavy auger and drilling a lot of holes with it just isn’t in this guys cards anymore.

I hear you both Kevin and Timmy, and I’m sure when my current drill doesn’t do its job anymore I’ll get a new drill that’ll be a dual purpose one, but for now I just gotta use what I have

I tried to build a deck with my Strikemaster auger…it didn’t work out so well.

I was fishing near Grand Rapids a few years back and a pair of guys rolled up on ATV’s and started to drill holes, but the first hole never went through. They tried and tried – making lots of racket and the noise got pretty annoying. So I carried my gas auger over and suggested they try it. The guy replied that when he used his ice auger to drill post holes in the summer it seemed to work fine, and he couldn’t understand why it wouldn’t cut ice.

    Sheesh!

That is just too funny. I just saw today at Menards Eskimo brand earth and ice augers being sold right next to each other. I wondered who might make make a mistake…like a loving wife thinking she is buying her husband an ice auger, but bringing home an earth auger instead.
