Have a helix don’t have the ducer yet. Switched it to ice mode and went out this morning and noticed it wasn’t drawing a route as I drove to my spot? Does the helix draw a route in ice mode or only open water mode?

Just getting my helix 7 ready for the ice this weekend, but id imagine the course tracking should come from the gps in the unit. Very well could be wrong tho!!

You have to tell it to start tracking. Go into Nav menu and there will be a choice for Start Tracking. Also a choice to Stop Tracking, Save Track and to Clear Tracks.

If you want it to create a track yes. I believe once you hit start track it will track continuosly every time you go out even after you shut the unit off and then back on again the next day. It will track until you hit stop track.

There may be times you have no need to create a track. If you are navigating to a existing way point there’s no need to create a track. If you create tracks every time you go on and off the ice you are going to have a cluttered up map pretty quickly. I usually mark a way point where I get on the ice. Then just drop way points if I catch fish. If I’m coming back off the ice in the dark or bad weather I just navigate back to the way point I dropped when I got on the ice.

This is how I do it as well. Keeps the map clean. If I’m driving out on a big body of water I’m not familiar with and I plan to come back in the dark or in a couple days, then I’ll start a track and save it under a temp name when I settle down in a spot.

Yea that’s what I was getting at I had to cross a ridge and didnt know you had to turn it on in ice mode every time unlike open water mode…so I now don’t have a track to cross the ridge which is neat but if we receive anywhere near the amount of snow they r talking it isn’t going to matter anyways I don’t think I’ll be going out for quite awhile

Yea if you are going out and you need to cross a ridge or avoid a temporary hazard it’s one of those times you want to create a track to make sure you go back the same way you came. You can then save the track and hide it and bring it back when you need it to reduce clutter on your map.

The Helix is capable of doing many things and because of this it’s a complex piece of equipment. I said in another thread you really need to invest some time with the manual and the unit to get the most use and understanding of it.
