I started smoking my venison sticks yesterday in absolutely wonderful weather and am finishing up today with another super nice day. Yesterday we had a south breeze that really wasn’t bad at all and today the blow is more from the north but blocked pretty much by the house. Still, not a real hard blow today.
Yesterday we topped out here at home at 56 degrees and I got the first half of the sticks in the smoker in a long-sleeved T-shirt. Today I have 52 degrees and again in a long-sleeved T-shirt. How hard is that to take in January? I’m lovin it.
The weather says we might see another 40-degree day sometime this weekend, then cooler next week. Maybe some white stuff. That’s fine. It’ll be a bit cooler than I like for working, smoking the sausage so I’ll wait for another warmup to do the next batches of sticks, summer sausage and cut muscle jerky.
I sat down on the steps overlooking the park land behind us and enjoyed a nice cold brew while tending the smoker. I might even have another not that the smoking is about a wrap for this batch. 67 pounds of tasty. I have another 17 pound batch to do for a friend plus my 25 pounds of summer sausage and 19 pounds of cut jerky so I still have plenty of meat work to do but I’m not hurrying.
What are ya’ll seeing for temps today. Here in Rochester its as close to perfect for January as it can get.
