bad topic but it is getting to be a broken record down here by lions levee/hidden harbor. They found a body yesterday afternoon and recovered it this morning. I worked at Willies for a few years and seeing this is just part of being on a big river in a big city but don’t remember so many in a summer in my area. I believe this is the second one in the same spot (back channel below the harbor) and had a leg hang up across the river from the launch.

I wonder how many people are recovered from the Mississippi between Upper St. Anthony and Hastings in an average year. Maybe 10 or more. Between the accidents, murders, and suicides, it seems like it’s pretty common to read about in the newspaper. Sad deal indeed.

My fear is I snag a person fishing and bring them up, especially at night. But based on how hard it is to bring a medium sized stick to the surface, I don’t think it would be possible to bring up a person, at least with walleye gear. Perhaps catfish gear with 80 lb braid it would be possible.

They always announce when they find the body, but they never say how they got there.

Dito, I also fear how many are not recovered.. Just for that person/family’s sake. I don’t know how many bodies are identified either and if they were linked to a reported missing?
I love P2 but it is a reality that we face more than any other water in MN I think. I hope to never find someone but to be honest would rather recover one than no one ever know where that person went and maybe what happened.

It is the policy of all news organizations (Print or Televised) in Minn to NOT report suicides. It’s very rare when they do. Only reports you will see are when they take someone else out with them.

Couple years ago as the Officer was escorting me out of the park on the river late at night, he was telling me how many bodies are recovered that aren’t on the news. The river is perceived to be a “dangerous” place, coupled with the fact it is fairly “bluffy” in the cities area makes for people who don’t want to live anymore a pretty obvious place to off yourself.

After a few years working as a paramedic in downtown minneapolis and fishing pool 2 in the same area I’m sure you have noticed the homeless camps on the bluffs or near the rivers edge in the downtown minneapolis and St Paul areas, but there are numerous homeless camps back further into the woods that aren’t visible from the river. My experience is that most of these bodies being found are either suicides or the homeless population that have a little bit to much to drink and take a tumble down hill. Just my 2 cents.

Now if they would only adapt the same policy towards mass murders nationwide.

I was fishing the river down below Univac (ok it was a while ago) thought I had a branch, when I finally pulled it in, it was 4 puppies with a rope around their neck connected to a rock. I was a young kid and it haunted me for years.

I wonder if there’s any ghosts on pool 2…. probably not, sasquatch ate them all.

I worked at a trucking company off concord st in S St Paul for 7 years and we had a camp right in the woods between our trailer yard and the RR tracks.. We shared a warehouse with a furniture distributer and his mattresses would disappear and re appear in our trailers all the time :).. needless to say we had a popular camp in the hobo community. this was the only issue we ever had though. Never had equipment damaged or freight stolen.
