Thinking about heading up for some smallmouth action on the Miss. Need a break from the ice. I’m going to be shorefishing and I’m wondering if anyone can tell me if the Anoka area is frozen or if I’ll have to go up near the power plant in Montecello?

The river is open here in Anoka, but there is a lot of shore ice that I would not venture onto.

    It’s worth venturing up.

Secrets out for shorefishing there. Maybe you’ll luck out with no crowds. Waders and plenty of walking will find you some seclusion.

    I’ll send a pm here

Well went up there yesterday and caught one pounder. Quite a few guys out there and a few nice ones caught. I was dragging a tube when I caught the little guy and also used paddletails on jigs and slow rolled a spinnerbait along the bottom. Despite the lack of bites it was great to get out and cast. I learned quite a bit after talking to some of the guys out there all of which were very friendly. I’ve only been fishing rivers for a year so anytime I can get on one I usually learn something.
