Anniversary Dinner Recommendations

So the wife gave me the honor of choosing a place for dinner tomorrow night for our anniversary. We’ve been to some pretty great places around the twin cities but I’m looking for something new.

We’re pretty much open to anything (except OCB). We’re not opposed to foodie/hipster joints and would really prefer the hidden gem type place.

Anything within about 75 miles of east bethel is an option.

    Thanks for helping

Want to try something different basha woodfire grill has some pretty good Mediterranean food. It on 65 south of 694. There is also bistro la rue on lexington off lake drive. Louisiana cooking. There is also a couple of good sushi places in blaine. Pad thai in andover is good to for thai food. Smokies on coon beach is a bar but has good bbq.

We love smokeys on a regular Friday or Saturday night. Those look like awesome recommendations. Not sure if we’ll hit any of them tomorrow but those are the kinds of places we like.

I’ll keep those in my back pocket for sure. I like that they’re close too.

If you have a 75 mile radius go downtown if you can. These places will require a reservation but are awesome. Bar la Grassa, spoon and stable, alma, Birch steakhouse.

If you want something low key but in the city, go to Eli’s on 13th and Hennepin. Awesome food, old school atmosphere. There are 2 locations so make sure it is the downtown one by Loring park. Eli’s is a hidden gem.

Not sure if you have kiddos but get a hotel and do it right.

Yes, 1 kiddo. And yes on downtown is certainly in play.

We go to alma about 1-2 time a year and it is one of our top restaurants. So that’s out.

Those others were all on my list, I just wanted to see if anyone recommends them. Would you pick any one over the others?

I’d get dinner at Eli’s and then go to the north loop for drinks afterwards. Second choice would be Burch steakhouse. It’s on 24th and hennepin. Might not be able to get a reservation but you can probably walk in and eat at the bar. Can’t go wrong with either option.

Well if you’re feeling frisky and fun…as you both should for your anniversary, maybe Betty Dangers at Marshall and Lowry. You can take that Ferris wheel ride with your cocktails and it’s all lit up. If you and the wife are also lit up, make sure to arrange a safe way to wherever you complete the celebration. wink
Fun place, they call it the “Country Club”, mini golf and other entertainment. You can have dinner there too of course. Same owner of Psycho Suzi’s…there’s another option? Enjoy, Happy Anniversary! yay

Psycho Susie’s is a good option, too. Get a couple greenies at Tony jaros and you’ll have a great time

Wildfire in Eden Prairie. Expensive but worth it. We went there when we were in the cities for work. When we pulled into the lot and parked next to Mercedes and BMWs we knew we were out of place. Lol

Cripes. Next time give us more notice, it’s hard to get a Saturday reservation with 24 hours notice.

    In Minneapolis:
    – Red Stag
    – Haute Dish
    – Butcher and the Boar

    St. Paul
    – Grill at St Paul Hotel – Never a bad choice.
    – Meritage – My personal favorite in St. Paul. Love the shellfish bar!
    – Strip Club – as in steak. What were you thinking?
    – The Handsome Hog

There’s a much longer list, but I’m limiting this to places that it would be at least theoretically possible to get a table.

Last minute success is sort of a man badge of honor. Isn’t it? mrgreen

I will say there hasn’t been a suggestion yet that hasn’t been in our wheelhouse. Great suggestions.

Been to red stag and haute dish. That’s a compliment because they were great. I think we’ve been to wildfire too.

Strip club and butcher and boar have been on our list for a while.

We love St. Paul by the way. We were married at the boat club on raspberry island. I’ll check those out as well.

I did make a provisional reservation at fogo. We’ve wanted to go there for a while. I know it’s not a hidden jem, so it’s just a provisional in case I can’t find something.

Btw, I won’t be drinking tomorrow. Got the company Camaro.

    Which anniversary, BTW?

Meritage in St. Paul can do 5.45 or 7.45 for 2. Call quickly.

Dsti? Fogo isn’t a bad backup plan. If you do end up at Fogo be prepared for a case of the meat sweats on your way home.

Meritage in St Paul? Do they have Perch on the menu? I’m sure you’ll want to order that. jester

A good new one is Nighthawks, owned by haute dish. They have moved a lot of their talent here and is a good place to eat, there is a restaurant within Nighthawks, it is called Birdie and they offer fancier fare, a tasting menu, it is difficult to get into but is worth the effort

There were some great suggestions here. Meritage lived up to the expectations.

Might be worthy of another thread to discuss the hidden gems and favorite dives.

A month ago, we celebrated our anniversary at the new “Birch’s” in Long Lake overlooking the water. Fine dining above, large deck overlooking some guy’s 620 below at the dock, and also a brewery pub in the lower walkout level … fire pit outside too if the squitos aren’t bad. So take your pick of high or low society and enjoy the view !!

When ever my wife and I get a chance to go out we like going to Porterhouse in Little Canada. Smaller place with really good steak and sea food.

Fun thread, lots of great options in the Twin Cities.
The old standbys for us are the St. Paul Grill, Mancinis and Lindeys. We just recently tried Paza Luna. Market bbq by Loring Park has some of the best ribs I’ve ever had.

Anywhere is fine as long as the food is garnished with jewelry.

Sals Angus Grill in Winthrow. In the middle of nowhere, but great food and atmosphere at a reasonable price.
