Anyone here ever fish this lake. I see in the regulations it has some rather strict fishing regulations See below:

Use of gas or electric motors, underwater Cameras, augers, and fish finding device’s are prohibited . Sunfish and Crappie limit is 5. Catch and release only for bass and Northern pike.

From what I understand these restrictions have been in place for many years now on this lake. I do know someone who says they catch some MONSTER sunfish out of this lake.

Yeah I fish it pretty often as we have a cabin near by…actually fly fishing for bass and pan fish is what I do on that lake.

It’s interesting what they do in those heritage lakes. Would be fun to hit in the summer with the kayak. I’m not much for the hand auger unless it’s early ice and it’s 4 or 5 inches.

I’m assuming one can use a battery operated auger too, correct?

The way I understand it you can’t even use a hand auger. At least that’s what I’ve been told

The regs are clear as day, no motors or electronics. And yes an electric motor is a motor. smash

“In 1997, special regulations were implemented which designated the lake as a “heritage fishery” in which electronic equipment (depth finders, GPS units, etc.) and motors of any type, including power augers, were prohibited.”

I’ve fished it a few times while visiting the state park/campground (nice campground btw). Lots of panfish and some nice fish but I wouldn’t call it anything special. It’s a neat lake to experience but there’s better lakes in the area if all you’re after is big panfish.

Its a fun little lake to fish, but you can catch the same size bluegills just throwing a leech under a slip bobber along any weedline on West Battle.
