Anatomy of a tip up

All three of my beaver dams are weary. I took this one apart and poured water out the main tube. A little crusty lube at the top of the tube. Looking for rebuild options. I can machine anything. I have some ideas, the bottom tube end cup is cracked. Is the rod suppose to seal on the two end cups or just packed with grease? $50 a piece is worth the rebuild time.

Not a very good picture but there is not much to it.

No seal that I am aware of, just lubed with grease. Too much grease or too thick of grease will increase initial drag. I’ve always just used a coating of white lithium grease, not packed, just a coating on the rod.

Thanks. Interesting. The bottom cup is cracked
I am concerned of water getting in? Any ideas? I could seal that with lithium grease also.

Correct me if I’m wrong….for some reason I thought that the cup on the end of the rod was soldered on? ???

I actually bent a rod before and bought a whole beaver dam rod assembly for $20 dollars.

    Thanks for the help
Rebuilt all three for the price of grease. So far so good. We will see in the bitter cold but so far so good. bow
