What a tribute, what a loss.
Wishing leave to Kendall and all who know and love him.
A well written tribute FG. Your words describe Kendall well. Prayers sent to yours and Kendalls families.
I’m sure that while KWP is a humble man that he would feel proud of how his dear friend eulogized him here.
God’s blessings to Kendall, his family and to you, Jay.
FG – sorry to learn CJD was KWP’s diagnosis. Close friend of mines father passed from this horrendous disease. 1 in 1 million incidence. So darn unfortunate that such a great person could be so unfortunate.
Working in laboratory medicine CJD is right next to HIV for isolation precautions.
NIH’s website has this well documented. Would be nice if more research dollars were appropriated to further study the link between CJD and CWD. Those of us outdoorsmen who’ve consumed many pounds of venison would benefit from knowing IF the prions can cross the animal/human barrier.
Grouse sorry to hear of your friend KWP. I remember reading his replies to posts and always had good information to share. Very moving tribute. May he rest in peace.
Update.
It is with tremendous sadness that I have to post that Kendall Palmer passed away yesterday at 4:00. He had just turned 53.
His family was with him and over the last day he had at least some more lucid moments where they were sure he understood that they were there.
Kendall was an extraordinary outdoorsman and stitched together with stout cloth covering a heart of gold. I won’t fish a single day without thinking of him.
I appreciate all the kind words and thoughts on this thread.

The Famous Grouse
So sad, very sorry. My younger bro died at 53 two years ago and you are correct Grouse, not a day goes by without realizing that is way way too young. Prayers sent –
So sorry hear. I’m glad he had a friend like you to share his life experiences.
It’s bittersweet, but thankfully he didn’t suffer long. I lost my aunt to Lewy Body Dementia, it was a very fast progressing disease. One of my Dad’s best friends is currently battling the same disease. I also lost my father-in-law to ALS, it was a long and slowly battle for him…. Brain diseases are a terrible thing.
Rest in peace Kendall, I wish I had the opportunity to meet you sir.
RIP Ken
Definitely been on the mind and have chatted about you the past few weekends with a few Pool 2 regulars. Will miss seeing you down there in the other brown boat.
So sad to here this sounds like he was one heck of a good man and friend ! My dental hygienist Aunt succumbed to CJD , she also was misdiagnosed at first . She said the family was not to give blood or be organ donors , that’s the first i have heard in regards to the spread of the incurable disease ! Sorry for your loss.
I don’t think a single day has gone by the last 2-1/2 months where I didn’t think about the situation Kendall was facing.
I had the privilege to do several Canadian fishing trips with him. I did four Canadian Brook Trout trips with Kendall. I don’t think I would have done any without his influence. I know two of the trips only happened because of his persistence. That was a skill I did not have but something he excelled at. In terms of experience and opportunity they are trips I cherish and am glad I was able to do with Kendall. I don’t know how many forum members have tried to deal with a First Nation village in order to line up a fishing trip but Kendall was able to do it. That’s no simple feat. All I know is the next community and river he was trying to target.
Anyone who has fished with Kendall knows he hated to miss an opportunity. Not only that, he didn’t want YOU to miss an opportunity. I lost a big brook trout on the God’s River in Manitoba and I think he was as disappointed as I was. In fact I may have quicker to tip my hat to the fish. He was always the first to say “have you considered this” or “I’ll show you this or help you out with that”. There was always something to learn or something to challenge your thinking when you fished with Kendall. I have tried to question my own thinking but Kendall brought it to a new level. When I look back, my PB Walleye, SMB & Brook Trout all share a boat with Kendall.
Considering my self a friend, my only hope is Kendall was able to find some peace of mind. It’s a tough day…
This was the last photo I have from Sept 8, 2019.
To be honest, I didn’t notice anything was wrong. Just an indication of how devastating CJD can be.
Rest in piece Kendall.
Over the last 3-4 years working with you, eating lunch together, and occasionally fishing together have been special times we shared. It was an honor to call you my friend. Thank you for spending time with me and my son sharing your passion of fishing.
You are sadly missed.
Ben
I first met Kendall at the Lions Levee ramp in St. Paul Park one summer evening. I knew of him because of his posts on this website. From his posts, I had the impression that he was a nice, helpful guy that obviously was a good angler. All of that is true. We kept in touch and our friendship grew over the past five years or so.
This past summer I had the pleasure fishing with him on Pool 3 for a couple of walleye trips and once on the upper stretch of Pool 2. I tried to absorb as much information from him as a could… everything from electronics, trolling motors, baits, and tactics. He was always willing to provide helpful information. I liked hearing about his trips that he arranged with the First Nation fishing guides that Tegg mentioned above. They sound like so much fun with equal amounts of adventure and fish. One of those trips is definitely on my bucket list.
We often talked about investments during our fishing outings and that state of the U.S. and world economies. And since we’re both engineers, that was often a subject of conversation too.
I could tell that Kendall had a very close relationship with his mother, brother, and nephews. I pray that their sorrow and pain diminishes as quickly as possible and is replaced with all the great memories of Kendall.
We lost an all-around, great guy.

it seems we had an angling angel amoung us. I truly wish the best for him and his family RIP.
The tribute to him says it all.
Mike
Grouse’s tribute speaks volumes about the man Kendall was.
I never met him, however my thoughts and prayers go out to Kendalls family and friends.
Awesome tribute Grouse! He sounds like a wonderful man. I dont recall personally having any interactions with him on here, but I really feel like I missed out on a lot after reading your story.
Sorry for the loss.
Beautiful tributes and a horrible way for anyone to go. My sincere condolences to all who knew and loved Ken.
I’m glad his family found some solace in his final days, here’s to finding more of that in the journey ahead.
It truly sounds like Kendall made his time in this world very special and was a friend and mentor to many on IDO. My condolences to all his friends and family.
Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends from a fellow teetotaler.
Damn, hate seeing another good one take the highway to heaven.
Prayers to all the lucky souls KWP had the fortune of knowing.
To All:
My heart goes out to kwp’s family and friends, especially his family and importantly for us his/our IDO friends. I’ve read this thread for two days now thinking about what to say. Never got to fish with him, but did have some wonderful conversations regarding the trout!!! We obviously shared a passion with that species as well as the others that we pursue and in the areas that we pursue them.
For those that have written the wonderful epitaphs, my heart bleeds for you, God Speed to you and his family… Rest In Peace Kendall Palmer!!!
Amen
Mark
Here is another photo of Ken. If I remember right that is a mountain climbing suit he was trying out for warm weather gear. Think temps where closing in on 15 degrees when we loaded up the boat that night and Ken was still commenting on sweating in that suit.
Here is also a note I got from Kens family on funeral arrangements for this Friday. Going to miss you Ken.
Dear in-depthoutdoors community,
I just saw this posting tonight and want you all to know that you all helped me to heal just a little bit more. Kendall was the world’s best older brother and most awesome of uncles to my two boys. He is so dearly missed. Thank you so much. Thank you.
Respectfully,
Mitch Palmer
Our condolences, Mr. Palmer. Please stop by again, and if you need anything just holler.
