Wanted to give a shout out to Smoky Hills in Park Rapids, not only did they have a bunch of different ammo, they had multiple options for some of the calibers even! Also, they have been very fairly priced the whole last year, I’m not sure what normal prices are on 9 mm as I’m new to buying it, but range shells were $40 for 100, which is far cheaper than I’ve seen elsewhere lately.

It’s good to hear that the options are available again.

The downfall is that if people are excited (or “ok with”) paying $.40 a piece for 9mm range ammunition…prices will never return to what they were a few years ago.

What were they a few years ago? Like I said I’m not familiar with pre-pandemic prices, as I haven’t bought any 9 mm for like 20 years. Scheel’s had hollow points $30 for 20 shells, so thought that was much more reasonable rotflol

For 9mm you could get a box of 50 for $12. That was for Federals American Eagle line.

I bought some 9mm for $16 last time. From $12, that’s about 30% more. Right now what isn’t. I can buy it again. Go out and shoot an afternoon with 0 target cost. Compared to $36 for shells and another $20 for clay birds. I can live with it. If you’re still trying to fill your basement. It’s still pretty expensive. At $40, they lost me. But I’m back in at $16. Only shoot pistol couple times a month. Clays every week. Down from twice a week couple years ago.

I bought boxes of Federal at the local fleet farm for 18 bucks a box 2 days ago. Limit 5 boxes.
And hollow point are always double because it’s a self defense round not at target shot.
Still tons of tula and other stuff around for cheaper but I have issues with that stuff.
I’ve found ammo every where I went lately for 9mm. It’s. 45 that’s a problem for me. I have a new 1911 and can’t even play with it yet

fleet farm has been good to me. typically will have most stuff there now. if you’re looking for 30-30 good luck. Been starting to see more game loads/waterfowl loads too.

Speaking of that, who the hell shoots bismuth at 50 bucks a box, I’d like to buy 3 shots off you to try it out. I couldn’t ever pay close to that on duck shots

I’ve seen Sellier & Bellot (probably spelled wrong) quite a bit online. I’ve shot about 100 of them and they work fine. Seemed kind of dirty but it was the cheapest brass case I could actually get.

I do for pheasant just because I don’t like switching shells between WMA and WPA and after biting a steel pellet I can’t enjoy eating anything shot with steel. Was only $40/box last time I bought though but, whatever, I only use a box a year. If I was using more than that I might make myself get over it.

Any shot hurts so I check really carefully but if one gets missed lead and bismuth aren’t nearly as hard as steel is.

I have two 1920s vintage 16 gauge side by sides. Nothing fancy, Levefer Nitros. They are great for pheasants but can’t shoot steel. I always shoot bismuth while hunting, lead for clays. For the volume of pheasants I miss the cost is inconsequential.

Pre COVID I was paying anywhere from .13-.15 cents per round for 9mm and anywhere from.35 – .55 cents per round for 44 magnums.
There was a pallet full at Sportsmans guide right when COVID hit for .18 cents a round and I thought, “kinda spendy” VERY next day my brother in law calls and they are 3 times that price!!!
Just paid .40 cents per round for a thousand as I was totally out at modern sportsman for Winchester. Yeah, if we keep buying it it won’t come down soon but…….

Looked all over for Federal TSS 410 loads out of stock across the board. Found one place 36.99 per box 9.5 shot. 5 rounds per box. Called a dealer who has been trying to get some for over a year. He said he was a direct buyer . Said Federal right now is focusing on center fire ammo . He told me if i found it and wanted it for turkey hunting next spring i should buy it . He thought 37 a box was a good deal ? I had paid 26 to 30 a box less than 2 years ago. So i bit the tungsten and ordered 4 boxes 156.00 out the door LOL 7.80 PER ROUND!

I am not surprised about no trap loads, local sportsman club had a team shoot a week ago and went through about 43,000 shells

Everything is very, very hit and miss.

After months of looking at every store and whenever I could, I finally found a few boxes of 20 gauge target loads for my son. Cabelas had about 10 boxes on the shelf, granted they were $9 a box, but that’s just the price you gotta pay these days. When you DO find ammo, get ready to be raked over the coals for it.

12 gauge target loads were on the shelf at Walmart last week, but only single boxes of 25, not the 100 packs I usually get. I bought 2 of the 100 packs back in the spring so I didn’t buy any, but there were 20 boxes there. But that marks the first time in months that they had any at all.

Rifle ammo? Well, let’s just say I’m glad that I reload and have a pretty significant stock of components on hand. IMO if you need rifle ammo for fall, you’d better get on your horse and buy whatever you can get. Holding out for the latest/greatest ELD/XLD/long-range, blah, blah load is only going to end one way.

Handgun ammo I don’t buy, but it seems like currently, it’s getting at least to the point where there is some supply getting out there. I would love to buy a 9 MM and the guns are now available, but I just don’t need the hassle of trying to locate ammo right now, so I’ll stick with what I’ve got.

I guess the good thing about buying stuff and just putting it in the closet is, I just found 2 full cases of 2 shot 3 cases of 4 shot, and a case of bb I must have bought last year and put it in a duffle bag behind my dresser in my closet. I thought the bag was empty until I just moved it.

You had seven cases of ammo in your closet and you just didn’t notice it there? To me that’s like having extra cars in the garage that you just forgot about.

I had them stacked behind a dresser that my clothes hang down on in the corner of my closet. Lol no idea how I never noticed them, besides my safe is in the way blocking the corner as well. I new I had a lot of ammo but hadn’t realized that was all duck loads
