As I’m sure some are aware, ammo is becoming more available. I know cabelas/BPS has been the joke lately but props to them for not extreme price gouging. If you are looking for ammo, they have a descent amount online for deliver, specifically federal fusion rounds. Unlike optics planet which was price gouging up the @ss.

Anyways, if you are desperate for ammo, give BPS or cabelas a search, you might be happy. Just thought I’d spread the word.

(Not as cheap before all this went down, but it’s pretty reasonable).

There are so many sites on line to buy ammo from at a lower price especially in bulk, I’d never buy from them unless I was in a real pinch.

Cabelas had primers last time i was in there and their limit was a brick. Was in FF that same day and they were limiting to 200. First time in a while cabelas impressed me. toast

Fleet Farm also has not over inflated their costs.
Some stores are stocked better than others though
As mentioned, remember who did and did not gouge their ammo prices and shop accordingly in the future.

This is a serious question. What is the reason for the shortage? Was/is it a shortage due to so many hoarding like the toilet paper thing where many won’t need to buy TP until 2030. Is it a self made shortage to drive up prices? If it is due to hoarding what is the thought process behind that? Is it I need as much ammo to fight off the government when they show up, or maybe I need 10,000 rounds or more to protect my stuff? I no longer hunt or trap shoot, so it hasn’t affected me but I have noticed empty shelves when I have walked past.

FF has been good for 30 cal – 212 ELD-X bullets, 300 PRC ammo…and even Federal 215 primers on occasion. No price gouging.

100%! I’ll never look at opticsplanet again. I was told with FF, you have to go up to the counter. for the longest time i would just walk the isle and see it’s empty…but they’ve been keeping ammo in back and you just have to ask for it! doah

Hudson Fleet farm was charging $49.99 for a box of 5 federal slugs during deer season 2020. That’s $10 per slug. Haven’t shopped there since and won’t do so again.

Big reason – New guns sales nation wide starting in 2019/2020 are off the charts.

In the last 5 months Minnesota has sold over 460,000 guns. That’s not all new gun owners but I’m sure a lot of it is.

Figured id toss this out there. Was at fleet farm a couple days ago and they had a crazy amount of 9mm. Still limiting to two boxes a person but it seems like supply is starting to catch back up. I think we are starting to dig out of this shortage.

Cabelas for $32/box. Higher than pre-vid but not bad.

    Multiple reasons.

    Pandemic and hoarding.
Civil unrest and the fear of societal break down.
    New gun owners needing ammo.
    Democratic president/politics.
Mass shootings and the threat of more restrictive gun laws.

The first 3 listed are new reasons in the past 16 months, the last 2 reasons aren’t anything new.

I was in Dunham’s in Albert lea and they had lots of slugs but nothing for clay loads. I don’t know how some of these kids are going to shoot on trap teams come fall with the lack of ammo out there.

    Pandemic and hoarding.

Just curious what type of quantities your consider hoarding?

Ive always enjoyed having a good # of ammo for each and every one of my guns. 3 of my kids alone shoot .243. Had I not had a healthy supply before the craziness hit last summer, we’d of had zero ammo for practice, pleasure, or hunting. An average day of rifle target practice shooting with 4 of us is 100 rounds.

When I see ammo I use and want, I buy it. 🤷‍♂️

Sorry I just now saw this. I wouldn’t consider that hoarding. I sometimes buy ammo when I see it too especially when I know it can be difficult to find.

I have noticed a significant increase in ammo lately. Even popular high demand calibers such as 22LR and 9mm are in stock. The cost has definitely gone up though.

For my hand guns I try to keep 1500 rounds up to 5000 if I have multiple in that caliber. I have 1000 for my .45 but 4500 9mm. Also have 4 9mm hand guns. And we shoot alot. It doesn’t take much to go shoot half of what I have on a shooting day. That’s why I keep stock what I have.

For my 270, 30.06, .243, I have a case each. My 22 I probably hoard. And my duck rounds, and goose I have a few cases each. I used to make the mistake to only have a box or 2. Now I buy by the case

Pheasant ammo has been very difficult for me to come by. I’m very specific about what I use too. I wish I would have bought it by the case when it was widely available. I think the primary manufacturers are only making it “seasonally” at this point which means when its all bought up, its gone until the following season.

Local kids trap league was going to cancel. NRA helped them secure ammo for their season. Was no bargain. Not sure if it was local NRA or National. To me, that should have been manufacturers first concern. Kids loose shooting for a couple years. They will move on to new interests.

I’ve been looking online but I’ve never bought online ammo before so I don’t know who to trust. Been watching for 22 short cb’s. Doesn’t shipping make online pretty high?

Found it interesting when popular rounds went up over 500%. less popular rounds like .28 gauge and .50 BMG stayed the same price or went up a couple bucks. 10mm and .40 cal was fairly available and not as inflated. Seeing more full ammo cases lately. Hope it’s going the way of handguns, that were over purchased for 2 years. Seeing more stuffed pistol cases. With guns $50 to $100 off retail. Springfield armory dolled up the Hellcat with red dot sights and compensator. When the waiting lists were filled. And gun cases had 6 or 8 unsold. It may also help that a lot of first time gun buyers. Are not going to necessarily be new shooters.

12 gauge rounds have been more difficult to find than 20, 16, or 28 gauge. Hopefully some become available as hunting season approaches.

I’ve found ammo consistently using the Ammoseek.com website. Their search engine scours the web looking for ammo and updates every minute. Just checked now they are showing 12 gauge trap loads as cheap as $76.00 a case. ($100 with tax and shipping) Not priced like it used to be but I think those days are gone forever.

I’ve accumulated 10 or 12 cases of 20ga 7 1/2, some #8s. This spring Scheels had 12 cases at $54.00 ea., no limit. Think it was an oversight. That would have cured my summer. But didn’t want to be “that guy”. I only took 3 cases. That left me searching the rest of the year. Since found some here and there, paying up to $8 a box. That’s my limit. Couple guys I shoot with have been buying Winchester 100 packs at Wally World, for about $26 ea. but Ill go fishing before I pay over $8, or set foot in Wal mart. I’ve cut back from 2 days to once a week. Reducing my habit from 150 rounds to 75 or 100 per week. 2 to 4 box limits suck when you shoot that much.

Any suggestions where my best bet is to buy some .380 and .357 magnum or .38 special?

I try to support local, but the guy here struggles to stock it and when he does openly gouges.

I’d suggest selling the 380 but 38 and 357 is pretty widely available
