Kinda disappointing this year. Most of the deals are on electronics as usual.

Had several items in my cart waiting to place the order on Prime day. Was hoping for a coupon or other discount. 3 out of 10 items increased in price the others were same, no deals to be had…

Not too often I see item increase in price. I’ll see them become unavailable or out of stock instead. Typically if I leave something sitting in the cart I’ll start getting hit with adds and offers at a lower price. Weird!

I’ve never found a Prime Day deal that I needed. Overhyped as always.

I checked on a couple of items that I have been following for some time now. The Amazon Day Deal price isn’t looking different to me than what I have been seeing despite the fact that there is now a higher price with a line through it in the ad now.

    Favorite price gouge item.

They better be full of apple pie for that price. Key is only 1 left so order soon so I guess I have to buy it.

    New deer stand!

Plus $150 worth of household stuff.

Average about 20% off. Worth it, but nothing to do backflips over.

I’m currently price tracking about 350 items on amazon via the camel3x extension. a pile of them jumped to MSRP on the 12th. Then they got 15%-20% mark downs. Still more expensive than they were previous to prime days.

I’ve never ordered from Amazon. I have checked prices occasionally but never found a deal. Other than the convenience of shipped to your house I don’t see much of an advantage to shop Amazon. JMO

I got a new fleece and a pair of hikers. Both were enough under the prices elsewhere to feel good about. Also got a baseball glove for my son that was a smoking good deal.

The power bed and crossbow I’ve been watching didn’t go on sale though, dangit!

Most of the time they actually have what I’m looking for, unlike 90% of the brick and mortar stores now. The wife has Prime so shipping is almost always free.

If you prefer to drive to half dozen big box stores to find what you need a convenience and cheaper then have at it. I’m not here to change anyone’s mind.

Yes I’d prefer to shop local but my time is worth something too. And if I’m coming to your store today it’s because I want it TODAY. I don’t want the “I can order it for you and have it here to pick up next week” line. You are in business to SELL merchandise, have it on you shelves. I personally don’t need a middleman to click a couple buttons for me.

Munchy – We will not have to even think about local brick and mortar shops real soon. I think in a few years they for the most part they will all be gone. I use to feel bad about this, but I believe for the most part business’s like gander mountain and cabelas brought this on themselves. They became poorly owned and even worst managed. Rather than allowing local store managers who knew what people in the area wanted and needed do their own ordering – they turned over all ordering to buyers who sat in large offices in big cities who have no idea of what people in various area really want and need. The other thing that has really hurt them is that they don’t want to have any extra room to warehouse any extra stock. They often count on reorder systems that cant keep up and often don’t get restocked till long after the items are needed. I will miss going into local shops to talk outdoors with other and touch and feel items I want. That will be soon replaced with talking with people online about outdoors and ordering what you think you want and if not liking it simply returning it and ordering something different.

I disagree but think brick and mortar will change dramatically. Big box stores – Menards, Best Buy, Target, etc., – will become more like fulfillment centers for the online portion of the business. You can see it happening already. Order online with the app at Target, pick up at the store in four hours for many (but not all) products even if they are not in stock at the store. Grocery pickup including fresh produce and meat is available at Lunds & Byerlys, Cub Foods, Target and more.

Brad, brick and mortar stores for online order pick up is the fastest way to get me to drop my business, ask Cabela’s. Driving to the store for pick up still costs me a couple gallons of gas. Free shipping to my door, thank you very much.

I’ll maybe get ripped for this, but Amazon is the last place I’ll ever resort to for finding things I need. I go to the stores first. Especially the mom & pop stores. I’ll pay the little extra to give them my business and keep them running. Especially in these times. Amazon is the very last place I’ll look.

    But that’s just me.

Just an FYI, a good number of items being sold on Amazon are being sold by Mom and Pop shops. One of them would be me. I’m far from a big time seller, and actually haven’t sent anything in since Covid, but yes I have made some good money at it in the past.
A couple years ago Amazon made the decision to scale back it’s own sales and focus on the fulfillment side of things, mainly to free up cash. Yes they still sell many of their own products, and because of counterfeiters and scammers its getting harder and harder to find items they will allow you to sell, however they do keep the little guy fed as well.

SuperDave – in your situation order for home delivery makes sense. For the majority of the population, i.e., city folk, using the stores as a fulfillment center cuts delivery times and saves money.

    BTW – helluva boat!

I don’t normally order from Amazon or even online much but this past fishing season I had to order almost all of my fishing tackle online, including Amazon. I was usually able to get everything I needed in person at Dicks, Fleet Farm, or Cabelas. Not this year because they were all bare. I assume that this isn’t a long term problem because there were more people fishing and there was supply chain disruptions, both as a result of the global pandemic. The one place that had everything I needed was the new Scheels in EP. I went 3 days after they opened and they had a lot of everything. But even they went bare too within weeks I heard.

Amazon supports many small businesses as does eBay. I don’t have prime because I don’t need to pay the membership fee for 2 day shipping. I will just buy it from there and wait another 3 days and get what I purchased with free shipping. the prime week crap is just to get people to buy stuff they don’t need and make it seem like a good deal. If I see it as a deal on Amazon, I look at eBay to see if it really is a deal.
I have purchased a bunch of terminal tackle off Amazon this year and got it for well over 60% off what I would find at a brick and mortar big box store.
Buying off Amazon is very convenient for me but I still pump plenty of coin into my local FF when need be. I don’t need my things in 2 days so I pre plan well in advance and watch prices.

Here’s a down and dirty list off the top of my head:
About 30 different footwear listings – ariat, keen, muck, etc.
    10-15 pellet grills & smokers
Numerous different brand name hand tool sets
    Dewalt 20V products
Decoys, decoy bags, layout blinds, a-frame blinds
Sitka clothing in the sizes I wear
    EDC folding knives
    harris bipods
Pretty much every Okuma Dead Eye rod and a pile of coldwater & magda reels
    Yetti style coolers
Vortex, Leupold & other high end optics.
That’s just to name a few.

Speaking of coolers, this is why price tracking is smart. 65% off a rotomolded cooler with a 5 year warranty? Sure I’ll take that. I bought it at $90. It jumped nearly immediately after my purchase to $165, then went back up to full retail the next day or two later.
