I am sure it is a real deal, but lately scammers have been targeting Amazon. They will tell you to contact them before ordering. Then if you do contact, they will tell you to send a money order. If you don’t contact, they will hold your money until you file a dispute with Amazon. Then Amazon will them refund you after weeks of fighting and they will ban the seller and they will and start a new account to do it all over again.
Yes I got lucky with the deal and i was hoping others did too. Unfortunately i checked again and the price went up. Usually when ordering with Amazon i order through the prime membership. Prime members are assured that the item is at an Amazon distribution center that is ready to ship out. If you have to make a purchase via money order than i wouldn’t ever purchase anything from anyone. Amazon has no other payment options besides credit/debit card. I’ve bought a lot of stuff from Amazon before and only issue i had was getting my money back subtracting the shipping back to seller because i didn’t like the item. Its normal practice under Amazon’s policy unless item is noted to have Free Returns.
Nice deal!
Amazon is the safest place on the web to buy from. I have found them outstanding on returns, credits and never had it take more than a single contact. That said, if someone opens them self up to sending a money order to anyone, they sort of deserve what they get.
Some deals seem to good to be true, but are actually just that, great deals. Congrats on getting one.
Amazon also had them for $440 yesterday. The people that bought them got an email later in the day saying their order was cancelled due to a technical error.
$589 is still a great deal.
I’m in no way saying your deal was a scam, I simply stating that it has been happening much more often in the last 2 months. I also stated that you don’t need to send a money order to be scammed…And I agree with Chuck, Amazon is absolutely the safest place to buy from online, but it is not failsafe even if the item was paid for through Amazon. Will you get your money back? yes, eventually. Who paid for the refund? Amazon, the scammer got away with it.
I don’t know specifically if Marcum has a MAP (Minimal Advertised Price”) agreement with all their dealers, but i would suspect they do. It is VERY common for an online retailer to upload batch files and have a data entry error. Most retailers watch each other very closely for map violations and will call a manufacture and report it quickly. Amazon, and the rest off the online retailers usually respect MAP Agreements and correct errors ASAP.
However, because fulfillment is done by so many different outlets, you need to be careful with big ticket items. IF the fulfillment is done by a non-authorized retailer or liquidator, it could be grounds to not honor a warranty. There are plenty of individuals that are the “original purchaser” and resell through different online venues. I’m pretty sure last year there was a major discussion regarding guys who bought Minn Kota products online and then couldn’t get them serviced under warranty. Know who your buying through and WHO is actually fulfilling the order!
