This stuff works great for attaching reels on ice rods. Under $4 at Walmart.
    No adhesive.

I have been using Clams version of that, get it at FF. Not much more expensive than that, but not sure on the size of the roll. It works great and no residue on the cork or goop on your hands!

Yup, I use self-adhering (no sticky) silicone tape as well. The only word of warning I’d offer to someone who hasn’t used it before is to wrap tight because it has more stretch than your standard electrical tape.

Vet tape works the same plus lots of cool colors. Also cheaper and at FF.

why do so many like to use cheap tape instead of getting a rod with reel seats built in? maybe its just me but why are some of these spendy rods not have the seats built into the handle? Is it to switch out reels?

Most do not what the extra weight of built in rod seats, you also lose sensitivity with all that cardboard and plastic. The bands are also low on the list because they dent and crack your cork. But as you can see by this thread some have different opinions. Most like tape or the silicone tape.

When I used the bands and got a decent size fish it feels like the reel is is separating from the rod.

I like the rod seats because I can’t decide what reel I want on what rod and am constantly swapping them. The reel seats make this very easy and is why I like the fenwick elites and one of the main reasons I haven’t made the leap to a custom.
