Am I crazy?

Found a new otter xt1200 lodge at a company 8 hours away, they won’t ship it because the box was damaged on arrival to them. They wanted $800 but agreed to $400 if I drove down and picked it up. I know it sounds to good to be true, but I have done a lot of research and the deal is legit. All components match with the parts list so everything is there. I’m actually thinking about doing it, am I crazy???

Depends on how much you value your time. Gas is cheap right now though.

    8 hours one way?

    8 X $7.00 per hour = $56 in a minimum wage job
    8 x $25.00 per hour= $$200 in a starting skilled job

    Car expense 8 hours driving x 60 miles per hour X minimum $.50/mile = $240

An this is only going one way. Doesn’t add up very well IMHO

Where are you at and where is the store? This time of year maybe some one is heading your way?

If you live anywhere near MN L & M Fleet has that unit for 799$ and the box isnt damaged/missing parts jester

i know that the price of 400$ sounds amazing, and it is, but as mocha said you might have to do some math and find out if you are really saving that much money. I also dont know how i would feel about having to match up a parts list to ensure its all there. Personally i want that box sealed so i dont have to be angry when im assembling it and i cant find a part thats supposed to be there. Of course i think you can buy parts from otter directly…

Why haven’t they sold it to someone local who doesn’t have to drive that far? They have no more financial interest in you driving 8 hours to walk in the store and pay with cash, then the guy across the street doing the same thing.

    Yes.

8 hours is probably somewhere around 480 miles. 16hours and 960 miles round trip. If you take a vehicle that gets 20MPG, that is 48 gallons of gas. Even at $2.10/gallon, that is $101 in gas. Let alone the pain in the ___ of driving 16 hours!

So money wise you’d be out at least $500-550. That’s still a pretty good deal. But I wouldn’t be willing to drive that long, even if you do save $250-300. The time involved doesn’t make it worth it to me. I’d find another option of someone already traveling there or something.

The store is in Tennessee, I am in Iowa. I don’t think there is a very high demand for an ice house in Tennessee. yea I figured it up to be $100 in gas, the drive to me is not that big of a deal, I’ll make a weekend out of it. The closest place to me that ha them in stock is 1.5 hours away and its $989.

16 hours driving seems crazy but if you like driving and have the time who am I to say?
Good luck and I hope you get the ice house you want.

Tennessee, if this place is anywhere either near Nashville or Memphis that would may be worth the trip. Both those towns have a lot of decent music and entertainment and especially in Memphis some of the best BBQ you will ever taste.

10 miles from Nashville…. That was the reason that the drive didn’t bother me. I’ve never been there.

What happens when you get there and now they want the $800 for it or they sold it to someone else….just saying. Big risks involved but go for it.

Close the deal with a credit card, worst case scenario if things fall through you can always contest the charges as either non delivery of goods or non delivery of services. another note, I was just in Nashville 2 weeks ago, and the area around Ryman Auditorium, the home of the Grand Ole Opery, is a rocking spot.
