Had a few loose rivets in my boat. I was going to have my buddy weld the holes closed but he is still learning to tig and burned a small hole. Has anyone used these?

I thought it would be better that the JB Weld sticks that you knead together.

I hadn’t even finished reading the last of your post and I was thinking just put JB Weld on it and call it good.

I fixed a 3 inch crack in my father’s old Alumacraft with JB Weld in the late 1990s and it was still on and rock solid 10 years later when he sold it.

If it’s a bigger hole, you’ll have to figure out a way to “back” it to keep the Weld from running through the hole. I’ve used strapping tape before because, with the fibers, it’s really stiff and supports the JB Weld to keep it in the hole.

Are you talking the JB Weld with the two tubes or the stick you knead together?

I’d do the putty stuff if you can get it. Does JB make that? I was thinking of the 2 tubes of JB Weld, but the putty would be way better for a hole.

I used to have this stuff that was in two cans, it was like PX20 or XP90 or some such. Awesome stuff.

Looking at the JB site the steel stick is rated at 900psi and the product with two tubes is rated at 3960psi. Oh and sorry Ryan…. coffee

You laugh but that stuff works great in some applications. I used it when I rebuilt my transom storage panels and love how the turned out. Fish blood wipes right off of them now.

they cut the boat in half and we see the boat racing across the water-dry- but it would be more likely to leak sitting still in the water.

Welding next to rivets is pretty much impossible. The heat required will make the rivets around it leak. Your better off drilling it out and replacing it with the appropriate rivet along with some sort of sealer. I love jb quick. 15 minutes and your back on the water. My boat has more jb on the bottom than I care to talk about. smash

I try to be snooty and not like JB weld, but it works and works well. If it’s below water line a dab/thin layer of something like flex seal after it’s cured ain’t a bad idea. Yeah, I’ve use the stuff and actually really like it, but hate the commercials. Have tried it all over the years of working on boat’s and a closed rivet or leak proof rivet, with a sealant like 3m’s marine 5200 is a good way to fix a popped rivet. Most parts departments carry the rivets and 5200.
