Alumacraft 2XB vs Non Hull Stability

Hey guys – I just took my boat out for a quick spin to ensure everything is working before my trip. One thing I noticed right away since this is my maiden voyage is that It leans far more to the right with one person at the console then I realized. Standing on the back right versus the back left for whatever reason causes a lot more body lean. Is this normal for a boat that does not have the 2XB Hull?

It seems like my brother-in-law’s Lunker 165 LTD is way more stable

    What boat is yours again?

The old 14′ Backtroller I thought was super stable, for her size had a real fat a$$ transom grin

    160 CS fisherman

It should be wide enough I think it’s around a 67 inch transom

My brother-in-law seems to think even a couple inches extra with helps his

Full disclosure – I can actually walk around in this rig. My T14V had us balancing on benches when we were standing in it so it could be simply growing pains for me, as I get used to it. I’m quite sure if I stood directly in the back corner of my old boat it would be at a 45° angle…

Just seems like the angle of list seems more extreme than I expected. Probably just an idiosyncrasy. Had I gone the Lund Rebel XL or Fury XL it would have had an 80″ or 83″ Beam vs a 67″ Beam and most of the issue would be absolved

45 or more…I have a T14V for duck hunting. You are a brave man if you try standing in the corner in any sort of wave…

The beam width will have something to do with it, but also I am assuming your cranking battery is also on the right side in the rear correct? This, along with only one person in the boat will make it lean more to that side. Do you have a livewell in the rear on the opposite side? You could fill that livewell if its only you in the boat and see if that balances out the attitude of the boat a bit.

You will be just fine, you just need to get dialed in. For example, where is your gas tank, is it remote or built in? If remote where does it sit in relationship to your starter battery? You may need to do some adjusting there.

Next, check your front compartments? Where is your Battery for your troller (or Batteries) sit in relationship to where you are positioned when your driving the boat? You may need to make some adjustments there, possibly move to the other compartment?

Every new boat I have ever had needs to be balanced and dialed in. Shift your loads to balance out, sometimes you might even have to go a little heavier up front and shift things forward. sometimes something as simple a moving a battery or 3 gallons of gas is all it takes. You will get it figured out and love the boat!

Good points – My starting battery is on the right stern and my trolling motor battery is on the bow, but more centered in comparison. My gas tank is portable but centered. The Livewell is a good call as well

Filling livewell on such rigs is more weight to an already stretched load.

Tried it on mine, killed planning bc mine would slosh all back and all the weight sucked. Plugged the hole, lined it and made it tackle storage. If you’re keeping fish throw em on ice in a cooler, tastes way better anyways.

    Weight distribution.

I keep about 30 pounds of catfish weights on my boat, it floats port to starboard depending on who’s with to counter my kicker throwing my boat off center balance.

Everything else in my boat is balanced in weight distribution except the 50# kicker.

    I’d lovea 90″ transom too!!!

cooler placed well can help even it out without having to have water sloshing around
