I have a 2012 Alumacraft Classic and want to mount some rod holders. Any advice on what type, how, and where to mount them ? If someone has any pictures of there boat with rod holders mounted that would be great.

No. That would be nice but unfortunately it doesn’t and I want to get some ideas before I started drilling holes.

I have a 2011 classic and I put on the C clamp type, GREAT you can move anywhere, also get the extenders, not the cheap one, they were $25-30 plus ext. CABELA’s

I used side mount, mounts on the side of the gunnel. the two top bolts I used well nuts. they are the rubber encased thread inserts that lock themselves in the hole when tightened. I got them at Fastenal. they do require a larger hole drilled in the gunnel but to me they look more “finished” when your done. and they pretty much seal any water out of the top rail when the mount is tightened down. the lower holes I drilled through the side completely. they ended up being just under the channel and pretty much out of sight. I attached a pic, had the boat for 4 years, and could only find one pic of the rod holder mounts lol. one mount is shown next to my right hip. I also used all stainless hardware. hex head bolts and nylock nuts. had eight on my 08 classic. all were as solid as the day I put them on when I traded it in.

I have a 2009 Navigator and I think the classics ended up with the wide Navigator extrusion. I flush mounted mine and am happy with it. The most happy guys are the ones who went with grab rails and rail mount holders like the pros use. You have the option of changing brands as the rod holder options get refined. I got Scottys and they do well. Folbes are pretty nice and pricier. Before you do any drilling, make sure the locations don’t interfere with anything in the boat. I also made sure they worked out for seating and convenience.

I have the classic 165 and went with ram side mounts. I used rubber spacers between hull and mount. They are mounted just under top rail and spacers give just enough space to put holder into.
