    I have a 2009 Navigator 175 sport with a 2009 Suzuki 140. The prop is 14×22 stainless. I am running at 42ish @ 6000 rpm.

I was wondering what others were running and what your top end is? I have friends that run similar boats that seem to be moving faster, in relation to my setup. For instance, one friend has a 90 Merc and is running low 40’s. Another friend has a 115 and is running 50ish. Both are running aluminum props.

I think I remember that my motor is really a 115 that is bored out (I know nothing about motors). Even so, shouldn’t I be running a bit faster in comparison to my friends boats?

Had very similar set up in the past…2007 175 Tourney Pro with Suzuki DF140 and a stock Suzuki stainless steel prop …sorry, don’t recall pitch, but wanna say 14×21…had a t8 on back as well…42mph was about the best I ever saw. I’m curious…what exactly is your buddy with the 115 running…and what are the weights of those boats? full windshield, like yours? or single consoles?…haven’t seen many 115HP hulls run 50mph…at least by GPS. btw, that DF 140 is an awesome motor…

That is what it is going to run. I just got a stainless for mine and get the exact same numbers. I would really like to see that 115 move his 50. I have ahard time believing that. I have a friend with a dom. sport also with a 115 opti on it and he runs the same as me. Remember the 140 is only like 120 HP also. Only way to go faster is put a 150 HP on it.

According to you numbers you are doing fairly well. Could you improve? I believe so. But first, realize that Alumacraft is not in the business of making fast boats, they make a softer riding hull for fishermen and families.

Check out the boat test from Suzuki’s website and remember they are optimizing the boat’s weight. http://www.suzukimarine.com/Product%20Lines/Outboard%20Motors/Products/DF140/2012/DF140A.aspx There are some questions you should look into: 1. where are you getting your data from for speed and RPMs? The boat supplied Tach is not reliable and neither is the speedometer. Use data from an engine linked NMEA2000 source like your Lowrance or Humminbird GPS. 2. how deep is your lower unit running? Is the cavitation plate at or above the water’s surface when trimmed optimally? Many people do not know how to trim optimally–do you? 3. where does the spray leave the boat in relationship to the back of the boat at WOT? It should be in the 3-4 foot range. If not, then you may need to have your transom peened to change the fulcrum or pivot point of the hull toward the rear. Do you have any trouble with porpoising at this time? or does the hull tend to plow or not get up on the “pad”? any problems with prop blowout in hard turns? PM me and I’ll see if I can help you.

The gear ratio on the Suzuki is much bigger then other motors. Which is why you are able to run a higher pitch then other motors in the same HP range. The bigger ratio hurts your top end. A 175 Trophy with a F115 runs 41-42mph with a 19p Aluminum prop. Your boat with a F150 shows it runs 51mph with a 19p Stainless prop.

I had a 2008 navigator 175 sport with a 150 etec. If I remember correctly, I was running a 19 pitch stainless prop and would get top end of 51 GPS with just me in the boat running around 5350 RPMs.

So if I wanna lower my RPM’S, do I go up or down in pitch? Or do I go with a larger size?

On my 2009 175 dominator i had a 115 on the back. I was running anywhere between 38-40 mph depending on conditions.
