Oil Reservoir Leaking Mariner 115

Picked up an Alumacraft Phantom 170v with a 115 Mariner and the injection oil is leaking out and I have not had time yet to dig into it (plus it is snowing right now). Where does these typically leak from and will it be a pain to fix?

I have a Yamaha 115 oil injected that was over filling the small tank that is attached to the side of the motor under the cowling.

I would think your’s is setup similar with a main tank that pumps up to the small tank when it gets low. There is a float in the small tank that should send a signal (ground) back to the main tank to stop pumping. Mine had a bad control module that handled the signals, $250 for a new one.

What year motor is it? If it is leaking around the tank it could be just the gasket under the cap – a one or two dollar part. (Be careful NOT to overtighten the cap or stress the wires.)

Also make sure that it isn’t the injection lines that are going bad, because if one breaks your powerhead is a goner. Give them “the wiggle test.” If they fall apart replace them with Mercury oil lines (not cheap vinyl tubing.)

Thanks Dan. I plan on digging into it today as it a nice day out. (Don’t have to remove snow from the cover to get at it today )

Fixed. The line from the oil reservoir to the pump was broken so replaced all of the oil lines. Then fired it up to find out the impeller was not working so $43 bucks and an hour later life is good.
