Ok, I just bought alumacraft tourny pro sport 195 (2009). The dealer told me that it has a 40 gal. tank. I went to fill it up and it was full after 20gal. The gas gauge was reading empty and now its reads full. I also asked him if there was a reserve lever I had to mess with and he told me no. So I was thinking it was the gas gauge??? What else could it be???

You can google the specs. That boat has a 38 gallon tank.

    My guess – Sending unit.

i have a navigator 175cs, has a 45 gal. tank when the gage first hits MT still half full. i think this is caused because the tank is long and flat under the floor, just not an accurate reading.

I have a similar boat with a 42 gallon tank and when on E I can put in about 24-26 gallons. I don’t think the fuel gauges are the most accurate things out there. It also makes a big difference on mine how the weight is distributed. I just fill it up when it gets close to E, makes it a little less painful than if it were actually empty.

my 2007 Classic 165 CS had a 20 gallon tank in it, and when the gauge read “empty”, it had roughly 8-10 gallons of fuel in it still always.

That really doesn’t make any sense to me. Whats the point of having a gas gauge if its not going to read right and the company (Alumacraft) knows it. Don’t you think that they would have that figured out. Do any other kinda boats have that problem???

My Harley has no gas gauge – you have to keep track of miles.

Simply, fill it up and keep track of hours.

I would never be caught dead on the water – explaing to the tow guy – that the gas gauge said it was on 1/2.

Use some of the wisdom gained from these posts – DON’T RELY ON THE GAS GAUGE….

Never had or seen an acurate fuel gauge on a boat.

I could not quote everyone but this one says it all. I have a 165 Nav and it was empty at 1/2 full. I finally hooked up my engine to my Lowrance unit and now know exactly how much gas is in the tank and how much I will need to fill it. I always keep it full so that I can afford to take her out anytime. Keeps the tank from sweating and gaining water.

my 2011 alumacraft classic 165 with a 20 gal tank won’t show a true gas reading unless up on plane..

How do you have your electronics telling you your fuel status?
Never heard of this…. would like to know more.

    Thanks.

You need to add the fuel level or fuel flow sensor and tie it into your network. If you have a lowrance network, it is the EP-60 for fuel flow or the EP-65 for fuel level if I remember the numbers correctly.

As an Etec owner, all I needed was a cable to network my engine to my Lowrance NMEA 2000 backbone and a memory module to store the data also hooked up to the backbone. The engine management system already has a fuel flow meter incorporated into the system. Other manufacturers have similar systems that may or may not network with NMEA 2000. If yours doesn’t, the EP-60 added inline to your gas line will do the same.

Yeah my 195 says 41 gal tank but has 2 gas lines at different levels in the tank. Yes you can never suck it dry, intakes are set at two different levels
