Well after 2 weeks of rigging, fishing, fine tuning, fishing, fine tuning, fishing, and a little more fine tuning here it is! 2012 Alumacraft Competitor 175 with a 75 Yamaha tiller. Terrova 80 I-pilot with RAM stablizer mount, Vantage 80 moved to portside, Walleye Master wave wackers, HDS 7″ front and back, LGC-4000 puck, LSS-1 structure scan, Lowrance SonicHub stero system, Folbe flush mount rod holders in rear corners, TraxsTech 36″ tracks on gunnels twords back and 18″ tracks twords front, Rod Buckle retractable rod straps on both sides of deck, Flip up cleats, upgraded to series 29 deep cycles for 24 volt system, added series 27 deep cycle in rear next to starting battery to isolate accessories off of starting battery and adding DC charger to charge while running, galvanized trailer with black fenders, removed tubes in side locker and extened them from 8’3″ to 10’3″, and MK210 onboard charger. I think that about wraps it up and cant wait for muskie season to begin!

MikeW runs a similar rig, only a few years older. It’s a good one to fish out of! Congrats!

I was just looking at that model at Cabela’s on Saturday. I like the layout
and the fact they changed the rope cleats on the gunnels.

    Nice job on the rigging!

Did you start with the Vantage on the other side?

I had my 4000 puck mounted at the bow of my 175CS and it didn’t get
along with the antenna inside the Terrova. My cursor on my HDS was all
over the board until I moved it. Keep an eye on that. MinnKota said it
    was a rare occurrence.

I have fished in boats with the Vantage on the otherside and did not care for the constantly looking back so started off on port side on this one.

The flip up cleats do not come stock on the 165 and 175 boats only on the 185 so I had to special order it that way. No more ski net getting hooked while fishing solo!

Good tip on the LGC-4000 puck. I did notice it a bit “jumpy” the other day…

Yamaha offers a 70 tiller at about 100 lbs less. Last year they were difficult to obtain, not sure about this year. Did the dealer offer the 70? If so, how did you choose between the 70 and 75?

There’s a world of difference between the Yamaha 70 and 75hp. The 70 is a maxed out 50/60hp and the 75 is a detuned 90hp. On that boat the transom has no problem carrying the extra 100# since it is rated for a 150hp in the side console and sport models. Don’t let anyone tell you that the 70 will push that hull just fine–it won’t. That’s a big/wide hull and capable of carrying 3-4 fishermen and gear so it can get hard to plane out.

I knew what engine blocks were used for the 70 and 75, but it sounds like it doesn’t boil down to horsepower as it does torque. I’m aware that the extra 100 lbs on the transom wouldn’t hurt it any. I just haven’t heard the scoop on the 70 Yamaha.

Not sure about the 70 but wanted it maxed out being this boat is rigged to the max and carries alot of weight and with the 75 and 90 being the same platform before to long it will get some mods and be a 90 in disguise!
