Still plenty of ice. ATVs are driving most everywhere. 4-7 inches of snow predicted for tonight.

you’re gonna need an ice auger for the May opener
Its been close to that a few times since ’96 when we ice fished the opener. This year will definitely be the exact opposite of last year’s March 20 ice out. That was the earliest as far as any one is aware of and in ’96, we had to wait until May 19th to get on our biggest lake in the area.

April 7, 2013 at 12:29 am #1160096The Wi. river is starting to open up here in Merrill, maybe by next weekend the ice shelf will be gone and I’ll be able to get a boat out and chase some eyes.
April 25, 2013 at 8:48 pm #1165896High temps in the 60s predicted for the next 5 days. This will help, but I doubt it will be enough for open water on May 4th. Maybe a lot of tears while standing on the shoreline on May 4th will open it by May 5th?!
April 29, 2013 at 4:04 pm #1166651There is some melt along the shorelines in Lake Bastine. Donners Bay has some open water by their boat launch.
May 4, 2013 at 1:38 am #1168203Jeff Robl of Bobber Down Guide Service has reported that Murrays Landing is ice free with open water up to Bonies Mound and down the Manitowish River area. Gateway Lodge has reported that the landing at Lake of the Falls is ice free with open water well past the fish refuge area. The remaining ice is becoming honey combed and foot travel on the ice is not recommended.
The discharge at the dam was at about 2,900 cfs, which is nearly 10 times the flow than the beginning of the week. The TFF is at full pool. The forcast for next week is for temps in the 60s and maybe hitting 70, so full ice-out should take place by or before May 10, 2013.
Have a safe opening weekend of fishing everyone. Good Luck!
May 6, 2013 at 11:59 am #1168648“flowage is full” haven’t heard that term in awhile.. hope the fishing in the river comes back. man, been tough on there for the last couple of years. used to be one of the best smallmouth rivers ever.
May 10, 2013 at 2:20 am #1169765Conditions are rapidly changing for the BETTER, but use caution as we are not completely ice free yet!
Sportsman’s Landing has opened , but large ice floes continue to be blown in and out of the bay. Caution is advised.
Donner Bay Landing opened, but closed again with a large ice floe.
There is a fair amount of ice between Piney Island and the dam, but it is broken in many areas and moving towards the dam. Navigation is either closed or hazardous.
It is believed that the Big Water past the dam is still iced in as of May 9, 2013. The strong north winds predicted should take their toll, but don’t plan on getting down to Beaver Flats before Sunday, May 12, 2013.
Murray’s Landing is open up to Boney’s Mound and to Fisherman’s Landing.
Fisherman’s Landing is open to at least Long Island and possibly further, but presumably not into Big Water.
Lake Bastine is breaking-up with open water along the shore and open water along the north end around Dee’s Island and Hiawatha. The north wind is pushing the ice down the Turtle River into Lake Bastine, so, again, conditions are changing rapidly.
Lake of the Falls Landing and Sturgeon Bay Landing are both open to at least Pink Rock and along the mainland shoreline to Piney Island in front of Lodge of Lakeview.
The last report about Springstead Landing into Baraboo and Sweeney is that it is 70% ice free and very close to being open.
Again, conditions are rapidly changing, but for the better. Fishing reports are good for walleye, crappie and CPR smallmouth bass angling. The weather forecast for this weekend is cold (40-50), wet and windy (20-40 mph); however, the forecast calls for temps in the 60s and 70s for the remainder of the week. We should be completely ice free by May 15, 2013 or sooner.
Enjoy the Turtle-Flambeau Flowage, Wisconsin’s Scenic Wilderness Waters Area.

May 15, 2013 at 3:19 pm #1171019Just about everyone is getting into the hot bite on both walleye and smallies (CPR). The guys staying in our cabins are having a field day.
May 15, 2013 at 5:16 pm #1171069the size of walleye that is being discussed is very good. usually 20″ plus walleye are hard to find up there.
