alternatives to back-to-back lounge seats

trying to make the most out of my non-fishing boat for another 2-3 years. boat is a 16ft open-bow walk-thru. the bow area is great for seating and has a ton of storage underneath, so happy with that.

behind the side consoles and walk-thru glass are the old back-to-back lounge seats. they stink. uncomfortable, poor height for visibility thru the glass, and space killers. once i add an extra tank of fuel, 5 gallon bucket, 60 quart cooler, tackle boxes and whatever else has been deemed essential, the stern area of my boat is a disaster.

my initial plan was to tear out both lounge seats and replace with two pedestal-mount swivel seats. that would free up a ton of space alone. but what if the passenger seat could be replaced by the ice chest that gets dragged on board for most trips anyway? Possibly even mount a swivel to cooler lid? This guy has the idea. . . Could install one set of the “corner” mounting brackets up where the passenger seat is, and another at the back of the boat. Move the chest = move the seat.

now tell me why it’s not feasible coffee

Personally I don’t know if I’ll ever permanently mount a seat to the floor again if I can help it. I’ve been rolling with these seat spiders for my last couple boats. It’s nice to move them where you want, out of the way to take a nap, fight a fish, adjust weight to trim the boat out how you want, etc. I’m pretty top heavy and I’ve never felt unstable in them or had them come off of it’s feet.

Pretty handy to bring my super comfy boat seats with into ice shacks or up on shore by the fire too.

Interesting, thanks Pete. Never heard of these before now. Do you put them in the truck when the boat’s on the trailer?

No, they aren’t going anywhere unless someone wants to rip them off. Which can happen to any other seat as well. It’s kind of nice to do on cold nights so they aren’t frosty in the morning though.
