Irresponsible, but I don’t think technically it is cruel. Gators can survive short freezing events, so I doubt it is painful to them to die of freezing.

There is a video a few years ago of gators freezing in georgia in a pond with their noses poking out of the ice.

Still, don’t keep a gator as a pet. I knew someone who kept one in the tub in the basement until they were ratted on. What kind of life is that?

Why didn’t it just fly south?

They’ve usually migrated through Nebraska by now, it must have been a late hatch.

I’ve heard muskrats swimming up ice holes but how bout a gator! That would be one heck of a surprise.

I hope the owner of the alligator sees the news and cry’s.

Had a muskrat come up a hole on tonka, all 4 walls & roof of my brothers day old fish house were flat on the ice after me not finding the door to exit.

Now that is funny. I am visualizing in my mind what that event looked like!!

Back around 2000, we had an alligator about that size in Mooney Lake in Plymouth. All the local news media were there and my kids who were 4, 5 and 6 years old were interviewed on TV. I was too and said something like “if you boil them they taste like chicken.” Somehow I got edited out (haha) But at least the kids had their 15 seconds of fame ~

I watched someone’s permanent get torn up by muskrats on West Rush a couple years ago.

I’d rather eat the gator than that big old leathery buck. grin

Guy I know had one come up a hole on ML and said it freaked out in the perm so they whacked it with a board. Had it stuffed holding a smoke and is now the centerpiece in his perm.
