So, I’m going to start shopping because I’ve been reading your post and got me thinking.

I’ve been with State Farm for 20+ years, actually never met my agent.

Sounds nieve but what’s the best way to start shopping, so many choices of companies out there.

You can find an insurance broker, essentially someone who represents a bunch of companies and they will compare those and find the best rates. Of course you are limited to the companies they represent. I have my guy check my rates ever 2 years. Actually need to do this in January. It’s good to do once in awhile.

Every agent (well three) that I have had run the numbers… home and auto could not touch what I found for auto rates even with “bundle” discounts. Agents are the sales side and many do not support claims.

Progressive, GEICO, Liberty are all easy to get quotes with online if you are internet capable. You and those covered in your policy need pretty clean record though.

We have internet auto insurance and the claims; Deer, Hail and theft were easily managed through their claims team.

That said give a local rep or two the chance to quote. I do and would use them if they offered the best value.

I have found that coworkers, friends, family all like to talk insurance….

Best advice I can think of is to ask every question you can possibly think of to find out what’s not covered, limiting coverage, and the what “ifs”. Crazy how many buried details they don’t tell you
