Still over 2 feet of solid ice!

It’s no April fools joke. We still have over 2 feet of solid ice in the Alexandria area. This past weekend we finally lost most of our snow on the lakes, so getting around on an ATV or on foot is no problem. With all the great ice out there I still need to remind everyone to stay away from moving water. The areas with moving water are never safe and it becomes even more dangerous this time of year.

We targeted a number of new lakes the past few days. When fishing a lake I haven’t been on all year there’s no way around it, you have to drill a lot of holes to find the fish. On one lake we drilled over 200 holes before we found quality fish.

We targeted weed edges and flats in the 10-14 foot area. We found a number of areas with very green weeds. The weeds were already standing a few feet high and they were literally fish magnets. If you were right next to the weeds it was, “fish on” and if you moved 10 feet away….. nothing.

There’s some great weather foretasted for this week, so get out there and enjoy. Good luck everyone and be safe!

Looks like you had a very successful day on the ice for some slabs.

Great fish Joe! Looks like your efforts really paid off. I especially like the last pic with the auger where you can see all the holes you had to drill in order to find the fish. You always go the extra mile for your clients! Can’t wait to fish with you in June

Thanks Ben! I enjoy the winter, but I’m ready for open water already. I can’t wait to get your son on his first walleye, I live for stuff like that. See ya in June

I was still ice fishing on a couple lakes this past weekend. The ice was getting pretty dark and honecombed. Now with the warm and windy weather we’ve had the past couple days my ice season is offically over.

The good thing is there are lakes that will be open to boat traffic by this weekend. I can’t wait to get after some those big slab crappie out of the boat
