As a kid under 10, our family would rent a cabin for a week in the summer fishing for gills and crappies. Dad wasn’t into eye’s up there.

We stayed on Ida and Lyda, others too I’m sure but that’s the ones I remember.

Your posts bring up some good memories with my family. I’m thinking next year I’m going to have to make some new memories with my family…even though the kid is 28, when it comes to fishing…she’s still 10.

PS do they still have those reddish colored catfish up that way?

same here, as a kid we stayed on Lobster Lake, then Carlos, always had good memories. My family didn’t target walleye back in those days, usually pike and pannies, no problems finding those.

Thanks Guys! I guess then I’m doing my job You guys are welcome anytime and I’ll even save you a few

I’ve been fortunate enough to have fished this area since I was a kid as well, so my love for this area started at a very early age. I can barely remember what I did last week, but I can honestly say I remember just about every trip to Alexandria I took with my brothers and Dad as a kid.

Then in 2000, when I decided to move up to the area it was truly a dream come true. This area has an overwhelming amount of water, but what you’ll soon realize is that so many of these lakes have fantastic fishing. The area seems to get fishing pressure around opener and then after that the traffic really dies down. If anyone is looking for a quite trip with the family, Alexandria gets my vote. The fishing alone is reason enough to come up, but we also have great swimming, beaches, parks, museums, shopping and great food!

The summers are absolutely gorgeous up here, but I can’t forget about the winters. Sure it’s cold, but they are just as beautiful. We have a ton of snowmobile trails, downhill skiing and of course lodging is much cheaper in the winter. Keep in mind that all this is only 2 hours from the Twin Cities! Did I mention the fishing is phenomenal Not only are there loads of walleye the panfish are also very plentiful! Hope to see you guys soon!

My boat is still out, but I’m gearing up for winter. I even fired up the new Solo yesterday. Come on ice!

Great pictures with the kids Joe! I’ve only been out that way a few times, but the fishing has been good so far. Might have to bring the family out that way next summer if I can pry myself from the river.

Thanks, I love watching kids get fired up about fishing!

If you do get up this way give me a shout and I’ll do my best to point you in the right direction.
