Big Eyes in Alexandria

The fishing in the Alexandria area has been exceptional all year, but recently the big girls have been showing up, with many fish over 20″ coming to the boat. The fish are holding just off the weed edges so it’s been fairly easy reading these fish on the graph. As for bait…that hasn’t mattered really…crawlers, leeches, and minnows have all been putting up fish. The most important thing I’ve noticed is it needs to be moving relatively fast, about 1 mph. It took me a while to figure this out but when I did it was game on

Not only have the cool temps kept the fish active all summer, it’s also helped a great deal on keeping the fish healthy for a successful catch and release. I caught this 29 1/4″ fatty Saturday morning. She put up an incredible fight. Even though I’ve had the good fortune of catching bigger fish, this fish takes the prize for one incredible battle.

Nice fish! Speed seemed to be an issue on Pelican this year as well…Well at least this fall. Since Labor Day I’ve been trolling the weed tops at almost 3 miles per hour in about 3-5 FOW!!!! About 80′ behind the boat.Catchiing Northern and Walleye!

CDN, sorry for the late reply. I haven’t heard much on the Chain lately but there are a number of other lakes in the area that were just starting to turn on before this last cold front. Once the weather straightens out, there’s no doubt in my mind that the walleye will be going strong. I hope to get out a couple times in the Alexandria area this week/weekend. I’ll let you guys know how it goes.

Chappy, you’re still hitting that poor lake Just kidding, you have that lake figured out though. I never made it up there this year. I guess it’s the classic case of too many places to fish closer to home!

The technique you described is a great one and produces a lot of fish for me through the latter half of the summer. But, now with this last cold snap I’ll be switching over to fishing predominantly jig and minnow combos. Good luck guys and I hope to see ya on the water!

How much of your fishing success do you attribute to the dancing girl in the grass skirt at the back of the boat?

    Dandy ‘eye!

When he sent me this pic, the first thing I asked him was if the hula girl helps catch fish. Needless to say he did not have much to say.

Man, a guy can’t have anything nice without catching flack for it

Yes, she tells me where to fish. If she wiggles to the right I fish to the right! Now you know my secret!
