My brother and I went up to the Alexandria lake area on Sat. and fished Lake Ida. What an awesome day. No wind, no jacket, no auger and no locator. Purely site fishing thru the ice using existing holes. Fishing in and around the pencil reeds in 2′ to 4’of water under the ice. Haven’t fished this way in a few years. Really miss this method of fishing. We are usually fishing the Rainey River this time of year, so we miss out on this late ice fishing. Anyway, we kept our limit of 1/2 lb. sunfish and threw back at least 100 others. Only seen a couple of crappies. Seen many largemouth bass and quite a few northerns. One northern was estimated to be about 10 lbs.. That site was both scary and pretty in 3′ of water. Hopefully we will be up on the Rainy River on Thursday.
