Ended up just going out to Devils Lake (just north out of Brandon). Friday, fishing was pretty good. We got out on the ice at about 1:30 and stayed out there til 9:30 We caught a ton of smaller sunnies off waxies, but threw most of them back. Caught about 7 – 8 northerns that ranged between 17 – 22″ using large fatheads, shiners, and suckers, but again threw them back. At around 6:30 we started to hit the crappies with fatheads. Caught about 18, some were smaller, but we kept 10 of them that were real nice slabs.
Saturday, we got out on the ice at 6:30. Dropped a line down the hole and the crappies hit right away. Using fatheads and a few crappie minnows, we caught 10 of them in an hour. Once they shut off, we started hitting the sunnies and northerns again. Right before noon, we pulled out two really nice northerns. One was 28″ and the other 29.5″. The sunnies kept on hitting the rest of the day and we even pulled out a few large mouth bass. After 5:00, fishing really shut off, so we decided to pack up.
Sunday, we decided not to head out. We figured it was going to be a little to cold and windy to be sitting out in portables. All in all, fishing was pretty good and it was nice to get out there. Maybe coming up there again in two weeks.
