Well it’s hard to believe it’s Spring with all the ice and snow on my boat this morning, but at least the crappie know what time of year it is The crappie are in shallow and despite the weather the bite has been pretty outstanding.
Yesterday we had near gale force winds, but it didn’t seem to slow down the crappie much. We targeted a shallow black bottom bay on a small lake in Alexandria. The bay was 4-6 feet deep and about 47deg. In a short three hours we boated over 40 nice crappie. They ranged from 9″-12″ in length. We were using small hair jigs under a float tipped with a minnow or a wax worm.
The fishing is pretty great right now, so get out and give it a try
