Spent the day with some neighbors on a guided walleye trip in Alexandria with Joe Scegura. The sign of a good guide is to know when to say “reel up and let’s try another lake.”

With one in the box after an hour and a half we pulled out and re-launched on a nearby lake. We not only caught plenty of eater-sized walleyes for a neighborhood feast, but I caught a PB 29 inch beast..! Never underestimate the value of a good guide that knows his trade and has a plan B, C, etc.

I don’t get to the Alexandria area often enough to know all the lakes and patterns, but there are so many quality options in that area – walleyes, largemouth, smallmouth, muskies. It’s great to use Joe as he’s so dialed-in on the current pattern and after numerous trips with him over the past 6-7 years, we always have such a great time!!

Looks like a great time! I have fished with Joe as well and cannot agree with you more. He is a great person and fantastic guide.

    Good job on the catch.

Thanks guys! It can be tough when Ol Mother nature throws you curve balls but that’s what makes it fun. The night before you came it’s lights out on Lake “A” and the next morning only hours later the bite is dead. A quick move to lake “B” and it’s fish on! Love the chase! Everyday is different.

Here’s a better pic of that beast Frydog.

    Nice work Joe.
I didn’t know people actually eat the weeds from the lake. The rest of the plate looks good.
