I plan on heading up to the Alexandria area for opener this year. I have never fished this area, I have spent the last 7 openers on Mille Lacs. Can someone fill me in on the lakes in the area? I’m not looking for anyone’s spot just the lakes in the area with a strong walleye population . Any information will be helpful.

    Thanks,

I have a cabin in the area so I’m familiar with many of the lakes. Some that all have good walleye population and are decent sized bodies of water would be Osakis, Miltona, Ida, and Carlos. Jump on the navionics web app and take a look. This fall my buddy CPR’d a 28″ mama walleye on Ida. Have had some good numbers on Miltona but that was also in the fall which is when I do most of my fishing up there. I generally don’t fish up there much other than at the cabin during the spring and sumemr. Hope this is somewhat helpful.

I would add Darling and Mary to the list. I cpr’d two 28’s the first month of the season last year on Ida.

Any of the lakes on the chain of lakes-Carlos,Darling.I normally dont fish them on opener but later in the seasos. There are other popular lakes in the area but our cabin is on the chain and I stick to those lakes when I go.

Many years ago we used to go up to Reno in June for a week. This was back in the 70’s . Don’t know what has happened to maple but we used to stay at my great uncle and aunts resort there in the 60’s. And fishing was fantastic.

Reno is a good walleye lake but can be very busy in the spring. Maple gets hit hard in the winter by the panfisherman but you don’t hear much for walleye talk. I know they are there though. If I was going to drive south out of Alec I would just go to Minnewaska.

Thanks for all the info. It sounds like I have all kinds of options.
