Hey all, I’m going to be fishing in the Motley area this coming weekend and wonder if anyone can tell me how the ice conditions and bite are on these lakes. We’re staying on Shamineau but could travel nearby if we have a better shot at catching fish.

Is anyone here familiar with these lakes?

I grew up in that area and use to fish those lakes a lot in both summer and winter. I still fish then a few times each year. I haven’t been out on any of them this ice season so far. I know they had all kinds of poor ice conditions thru most of Dec. Lots of both snow and slush made getting around on the lakes rather tough. About the time the slush started to finally firm up they got another round or two of snow with the 2nd storm causing lots of drifting. I know there was a decent crappie bite in Dec. in the spearing bay on the end of the lake near the Public landing. A buddy of mine often does decent on Tipups for both pike and walleyes on the Backside of the Island in 12-16 FOW.
Sorry I don’t have more detailed info. for you.

Thanks Thumper, that helps. We are walking out, so a lot of where we fish will depend on where we can get to. It looks like there’s some promising structure right out from the cabin we are staying at on Shamineau. Hopefully the consistent weather will help the bite.

This flat on the backside of the island is good for pike fishing – not to far of a walk from the landing on that end if you can’t drive out from that landing

This small bay has been good for panfish and pike in the past – normally better near ice out but they were catching nice fish there a few weeks ago
