When you have good and open communication w your neighbors there are zero problems in the city. You’d be surprised how many folks still think kids with pellet guns are cool.

I do not like to see any albino shot, even if legal. But, not my opinion does not make the law. That is said for the record. Is there a chance that squirrel could have been chewing itself into the neighbors house? I have neighbors and friends that battle this, and those little bugger can chew through tin or aluminum. And then they take up residence in the attic and walls. Sounds like a mess, they hear them running about and the like. Just wondered if there may have been a reason for this critter to get shot.

Yeah the fascination folks have about gray squirrels with faulty genetics is puzzling. My favorite is folks who have paid me money, to trap out the squirrels that are ripping up their attic, but then insist that if I happen to catch “the white one” it must be released in the yard immediately. Mind you, this is ALSO one of the squirrels ripping up the attic, but apparently since it’s white, that’s fine. Okey dokey.

I usually have a few black squirrels and finally had an albino. Now I’m sure someone is either catching them or just pegging them off. They just don’t disappear disappear. The reason I figure that is some years, I find a few dead squirrels in my yard and that’s probably shot from someone.

Anyway I remember according to small games rules, the albino ones and the black ones are protected from hunting.

Just ask the neighbors not to shoot in to your yard. I doubt it was a drive bye. Till next time don’t Try to get attached to tree rats. For all you know it ran from his yard.
Sounds like this one might go in to the cold case files. I remember being young and the neighbors used to call the cops on me for my dirt bike. It started a war and I would be as loud as I could until noise ordinance. Then one day he came over and had a respectful conversation with me and we both agreed to be cool.

Sure the squirrel may have had a troublesome past. Stealing seed from feeders, robbing other squirrels who had way more nuts than they needed just to feed his family. Deep down though he was a good squirrel living in a troubled world and he didn’t deserve the death penalty that day.

It’s a squirrel that was shot with a BB gun, it’s not the first and not the last. I get it, you live near a school, by daughters window etc. Most likely by a neighbor, but you called the DNR over it!!! I can’t imagine what your neighbors think of you. I think Beads is right and go talk to said neighbor

I shoot squirrels all the time in my yard. Id bet if i went home right now there would be at least 15 or more running around. For some reason i never shoot the white or black ones. Only thing that would bother me is if it was shot that close to your house by anyone but you.

Thanks for the comments. Want to provide some context of where the squirrel was shot. In the first picture the green bucket shows where the squirrel was shot. The window next to it is a bedroom window. The second picture gives an idea of how close the houses in our neighborhood are together. The school is about 100 yds behind the house to the left of mine. I agree with all the comments about being a good neighbor. I’m very lucky. I get along with all my neighbors (at home and at my cabin). I did talk to my neighbor after the warden stopped and he asked me what was going on. I never accused him of anything. I only reported that someone shot a squirrel in my yard. He was also bummed someone shot it. He indicated his wife was working from home that day and didn’t notice anything during the time it was shot.

It’s probably ran and died in your yard. It would be hard to believe some one shot directly in your front yard. Neighbors probably plucked it off next to your house and it ran 20 ft with adrenaline and died.

Agreed, they can run a very long ways when shot anywhere else other than a good headshot.

Got into squirrel/rat shooting shows on YT for a little time there.

My guns are sighted in the basement until it’s go time. I hate seeing animals suffer. Headshot or no shot in my world.

Did some investigation this morning and found this, I contacted the local authorities and they are aware of the situation and sent a officer out to the crime scene. Crime scene reenactment found he probably was hit in the yard by a untruthful neighbor, The neighbor was heard at the local watering hole talking about it. The police are still looking for more tips and a reward of one warm Hamm’s beer was offered up. If you have any more information please keep it to your self.

Come on Bigcrappie how can you poke fun at such a serious situation. I mean really I think we should contact CSI to have some DNA samples run or something.

No doubt, I was thinking the same thing.

That’s the only way to get to the bottom of this.

The only thing that would concern me is the squirrel being shot in your yard. I wouldn’t want anyone shooting in my yard without prior knowledge.
Before I retired we lived on a hobby farm where one out of ten squirrels were albino. They were interesting to start with but after a year they were just squirrels. When the hawks and owls would cycle through the albinos were easy pickings for them.

some of my high school friends used to pour dog food in the middle of a county road and wait for the coons to come out so they could hit them with their cars. we are no longer friends. probably the same POS that shoot random critters in peoples yard.
this very reason is why i prefer animals over people.

Update – Just talked to my neighbor that is kitty corner to my back yard. I heard him shooting the air rifle last night. Used to shoot in archery league with him. I asked him about the squirrel. He shot it in his yard and it ran and died where I found it in my yard. He wasn’t sure if he hit it. He also claimed he didn’t know it is illegal to shoot a BB gun in city limits. I don’t really have an issue if he wants to shoot in his yard or even shoot squirrels and rabbits. My issue the entire time was thinking someone shot it where I found it. I just told him I wish he wouldn’t have shot the albino one.

Killing anything in WI that’s albino is illegal.

Didn’t think some one would shoot in your yard. Like I stated earlier squirrels are tough and it most likely ran and died where it did.
Did you break it to him the dnr, sheriff and local csi is investigating

Yeah and I doubt that white squirrel is albino. Only 15 percent of white squirrels are albino.

Yes, I told him I called the warden. Even though it sounds like since it is in the city of Hudson he would not do anything it would be a Hudson Police deal to enforce. I don’t plan to pursue this anymore. My only concern was if it was shot in my yard without someone asking my first.

From what the warden says, it is NOT illegal to shoot an albino squirrel like it is a deer in WI. I had no idea and would have thought the albino squirrel was protected.

Just because it’s white does not make it albino
