I am getting a new casting reel this spring and I was set on abu garcia round profile as I like them a lot but then I started hearing about akios reels. They are in the same ballpark as far as price but a lot of internet folks say the akios is much better quality. Any of y’all have any experience with akios? Good, bad, no difference? Thanks for any help in advance. The reel will be used for catfish and similar size creatures of the deep.

Which Garcia were you thinking of?

A c3 6500 is about as far as I have narrowed it down to so far. There ar so many choices I get lost. I have a record 61 now and like it a lot just figured on adding something a little different.

Wish I could help you with the Akios. Never heard of them.

You might know the downfalls of the 6500’s already. Too light of a line out alarm for flathead size baits and they don’t hold up very well in the casting dept.

Personally I haven’t had a 6500 go south on me from casting…but the musky guys all sing the same tune.

X2 on everything BK said. Clicker is too light and musky guys burn them out casting. That being said, I use circle hooks and fish for flatheads and sturgeon so I like my 6500’s waytogo

I don’t know how the musky guys are burning them up and or why they are not just spending the $40 to upgrade the bearings and drive gear to have the best casting hand winch known to man? Well I ordered the Akios is so I will be the gunni pig. And will let y’all know if there are all they are and old abu ambassador reels were supposed to be.

I’d rather put that $40 towards a better reel.

Please enlighten me. What reel casts farther and holds up to casting 1lb lures / baits and costs $200 ?
