Mid Summer Change of Pace.

The first of several trips to the Upper Mississippi north of Aitken. A nice mid-summer change of pace from Pool 2 and Milly. Soemtimes wish I could keep the jon boat handy up there for those days we get blown off the pond.

Rule #1. If you are going to take the Favorite Wife 8-10 miles up “sheet creek”, you better make sure she stays dry! The forecast was for thunderstorms “Late” in the afternoon! The storms hit us in Central Minnesota – Aitken area right about noon Saturday. As it turns out, the new set of Guidewear I bought the FW pays off. I know she would not last long with the old suit!! Also, why is it when you say “I’m not worried about the lightning…..” Not 10 minutes later – KaBOOM!!! A lightning strike about 30 yards away.

Anyway, the trip up the Miss was fun as always. Anywhere you can go on a nice Minnesota afternoon weekend and not see another boat is awesome!! (Yes, nice is subjective – was nice when we put in.) The fishing was somewhat slow, but we did get a couple keeper walleye and some smallies to keep things interesting.

Been playing around with a new video camera I picked up about a month ago. This thing is sweet. Takes video in HD in either 720P or 1080P. I use the 720P setting all of the time as that is the best setting Youtube can handle. The camera is waterproof and actually submersible to 3 meters or about 10 feet. I have not yet dunked it underwater, but there are a lot of YouTube vids going underwater. The camera is a Kodak PlaySport. Highly recommend the camera. Comes with the editing software that I’m just getting time to figure out. Look for more vids soon!!

Tip – select the 720p and view full screen.

Thanks for the report Jon. Its getting to be that time of year for a change in scenery. Time to take the kids swimming and go look at some smaller rivers.

JJ that little handheld makes pretty good vids. Read some reviews, only problem out there as far as negative comments were the filming of longer clips. Have you experienced any downside to this type of camera? Very nice looking stretch of river, would a 14 foot deeper V with a 25hp have any troubles in the next week or so with the water running higher?

I’m using an 8 gig high speed chip. That’s good for 2 hours of video. I like to keep any clips under 10 minutes. (That is the YouTube time limit) You can string together clips into a movie like I have here. That movie was 496 meg. After downloading the files, I will burn them to CD’s and store off computer. You can use up a gig real quick! Like I said – real happy with the camera. No complaints at all!

This is my 3rd digital video camera and the best by far. They made huge improvements over just the last year. These things are incredible! Who would have thought you would see 8 or even 16 gig chips?? Blows my mind. Best of all is it records/saves in .mov file formats so it’s a snap to upload to youtube. No more having to re-format files. Just as easy as taking a pic and posting here on IDO.

OK, next time out, I’m putting this thing under water!!!

Should be good to go in the next 7-10 days. I did bump a couple rocks, but no biggie. Just go slow, run the outside turns and fish the spots 5-9 feet deep. Approach areas with ripples carefully. That vid was where the Willow runs in. Put in at the ramp on 169 just north of Aitken. Two wheel drive no problems.

I’ll put the old prop on too, thanks for all the “ideas” the wife should like it when I tell her “we’re going shopping, hop in”
