Made the treck North to visit relatives…and of course, brought the gear to fish newly opened waters in the boat.

Here’s a little run down from Saturday, 4/25: We fished a small lake just up from Palisade and the water is definitely up from last fall. That’s a good thing!

The water temp was 40.3 degrees everywhere. Shallow or deep. So that front we had up here Friday cooled her right down. And it was chilly Saturday morning. Soooo, the crappies we targeted were suspended over deep water. Mostly the deepest water in the lake. Scads on the graph…in small herds, no less! But biters were slim…not even really sniffers. We tried minnow and hook, minnow and colorful jig, plastics, hair, even waxies on tear drop. Alas, the 7 AM to 11 AM bite was not to be.

We probably should have waited for the sunny weather that is outside RIGHT NOW WHILE I SIT INSIDE – oops, sorry…because then the shallows would probably have sucked them in.

Not many fish…none kept…motor ran great though. Time to get out!

Thanks for the update Scott. It sounds like the water temps need to get a little bit warmer and then they should be on the chew!

Hey Scott nice report. Where do you have family? I have family in Aitkin and I know that is real close to Palasades. Are any family members on the fire department as my cousin is in Aitkin and probably knows a few.
