My cousins & I usually try an annual grouse outing this time of year to kick off winter. This time no dice. 20″ of snow in woods. Tried a small local farm lake hoping for bluegills. A lot of water & slush on top of the ice. I was a little surprised to only find about 8″ of ice. This would be on a 20 acre lake with 30′ of water.
We could mark fish but hard to get takers. The entertainment was on the two tip ups we had. I’m guessing this fish was in the 8 lb range. I dropped a new minnow down the hole and was standing there drying my hands. The tip up reel took off and was spinning so fast the flag didn’t go. That fish went 4-5 lbs.
