Headed up to the Aitkin area with Craig D this weekend. Lots of snow up there and lots of people. We decided to hit some of our old panfish spots and we found some fish. Saturday we fished a half day and found some nice gillls in 11 feet of water. We stayed shallow the rest of the day and Craig landed an 11 incher. We caught many nice 9-10 fish. Today we headed to some deeper water for some crappie action. We found crappies in 20 feet of water suspended 5 feet of bottom. We boated some nice 12 inch fish but headed back to shallow water for some more gill action. A light action rod and 2 pound test was a must. Big gills are smart. They get big that way. The best baits were a Bro Gill Getter in orange and a Genz worm in green both tipped with a waxie. Theres lots of ice left so the ice season will only get better.

Very nice fish Derek. Sure wish I had the time and means to spend some time fishing that area again. Lot of great lakes up there.
