We spent 10 days at our favorite resort and had pretty goods success this year. The water is high and the weeds are low, obviously a late spring. We caught a lot of Bass and a lot of dandy sunfish. Didn’t chase Walleyes this year. The day before we left it was 103 degrees, the day we got there it was 52 degrees and a 35 MPH wind. I like a good challenge
The cabbage beds aren’t up to where you’d expect them to be in Mid-June but they were holding a lot of fish. Small crankbaits bounced off the weed tops accounted for a lot of fish, and when they slowed down a Texas rigged worm or small jig would get you back on fish. We found pre-spawn male sunfish scattered around the shorelines (hard bottomed areas)and they were great fun on light weight flyrods. Anything that looked like a Damsel Fly nymph would draw their attention. I worked up a pattern over the winter that was a real killer, that was fun. The Dogfish in the picture was 29 inches long and I caught him with the 4 weight flyrod. 4# test tippet and a #10 Woolly Bugger. He had me into the backing twice before I landed him! That was plenty exciting. And that’s the heaviest Largemouth I’ve caught in a long, long time. She must have had two pounds of eggs in her. Carefully released!
