Air / Spring Seat Pedestals

I’m considering installing some aftermarket boat seat pedestals for my WX1910 with either an air or spring compression system.

The WavePro seems appealing for it’s clean appearance.

The Smooth Moves Ultra seems to be well-liked.

Are they worth the cost at ~$500/seat?
What are the advantages and disadvantages of air compression vs spring systems?
How well do they integrate with seat adjustments such as slides, etc.?

    Thanks!

I have been considering this same thing for my MX. The Wave Pro’s look like a really manageable DIY product, but how do the two compare in performance?

I recently purchased 2 Smooth Moves, but have not installed them yet.

In my experience all of the suspension seats work for reducing the shock to the riders, however be aware that the boat and the rest of your gear are still getting the full shock.

I have ran smooth moves for the last 5 years including the new ultras and loved them. Them have saved me a lot of back pain! Last year I had the chance to try a Wave Pro and instantly was impressed! The biggest thing is not having to fight the rebound like on a smooth move. You battle the constant up/down as where the wave pro is a lot smoother…I went with 2 new Wave Pro’s this year!

i’m sold…sounds like a couple of Wave Pros are in my future!

what about integrating with a seat slider? i’d be worried that sliding back might mean my weight is off-center from the shock and create some binding. or is that not an issue? i see they offer a seat base set-back plate, maybe that’s my answer and you have to choose a specific distance rather than using a slider?

The Wave Pro pedestals remind me of the Shock Master pedestals that were out a few years ago. I think this company has since folded up as I can no longer find their info but their pedestals were in the $150-200 range. I was going to buy one to try but then could not get ahold of them. I like this style because it fits easily in place of a standard pedestal on my tiller steer Alumacraft.

I’ll be curious to hear reports on the Wave Pro’s but not sure I will swing the price.

I haven’t seen anyone try using the seat slider. My buddy just put them in his WX1910. I think you are better off going with the set back plate if needed. Try it with out first and see!

I am running the wavepros in my MX2025 and we have adapted the slide brackets onto them. However we also modified them to reduce the travel by about 1.25″ on both ends so it does not get to far off center.

I was never able to use the Shockmaster pedestal but I do know they were still using a spring to control the ride, much like the stock so called “air ride pedestals” that many boats have. The Wavepro pedestal is using true air ride technology that you see in things like Supercross bikes, snowmobiles, and off road trucks. I have been running two 16″ Wavepros in my Yar Craft 1785BT for the last 4 years without any problems. I can honestly say I will never own a boat with out them.

    Dalton,

Thanks for the clarification between the Shock Master and WavePro’s. I also appreciate the review from your use of them. They do sound nice

I like the cleaner look to the WAVEPROS. compared to the bulky original smooth moves or the slinky air bag look to the new style. Can not say for the performance tho. The stock base pedestal “air ride” from springfield is a joke.

Two things also to keep in mind about the WavePros is if you have removable snap out carpet you need to actually removed the pedestal from the floor to put your carpet in and out and you can not lock them from turning but they do have an add on lock kit in the works right now.

We have had very favorable feedback on both the wave pro & smoothmove ultras. Personally, my Lake of the Woods test run last year went very well. In fact, anyone that has done the demo run with wave pro has purchased them after using them.

Honest Review- I went with Wave pro’s I really like them the slider bracket works great have to drill a couple holes really easy I run a MX2025 and they look good and ride even better I can’t wait to test them on bigger water as I have only used in Bismarck on the river and a little bit on upper Oahe breaking in my boat. I will keep you posted but I haven’t ever rode in anything better. The smooth moves do have a little bit more adjustment but my wife is super light and smooth moves don’t work for her.

I just left Red Wing and the NWT tournament. Kavajas and the Parsons just had the WavePro installed in their boats and were VERY impressed.

You sure about that???? I am pretty sure when my old mans boat was sitting next to Keith, Chase, and Gary’s boat at the dealer, all 4 had new style smooth moves. Keith and Gary actually convinced my dad to get the smooth move because they had them.

This was just over a month ago.

ok, just got mine installed…but without a setback it’s waaaay too close to the steering wheel.

can someone coach me through adapting the seat slider to fit?

If that is the ones that look like a trucker seat they were removing them as I stood there. They said the compression strokes was nice but the rebound almost throws you out of the boat.

sktrwx2100-are the “air ride” pedestals from Springfield the same thing as “Wavemaster Cadia Suspension Pedestals?” I ask because there is a “Springfield” logo on these pedestals in their pictures on their website. Assuming these are two different products has anyone tried the Wavemaster Cadia Suspension Pedestals and do you have reviews of them?
